Disco-Punk Space Horror RetroSpace Launches on PC and Consoles – Gamezebo

You’re a janitor on a space station. And the station has been swallowed by a black hole. Also, there are weird animal and plant hybrids wandering around. But don’t worry about them, as you can mutate yourself into some sort of tentacle-armed, mind-controlling menace! Well, that’s RetroSpace for you.

Time itself has stopped behaving properly!

RetroSpace is out now on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Developed by The Wild Gentlemen and published by Kwalee, RetroSpace is up for grabs at $19.99. There’s also a launch discount running during the first week.

The setting is Aurora 5, one of humanity’s space stations. The Aurora fleet was supposed to be humanity’s last hope in 2177, a convoy of floating space stations. But Aurora 5 has ended up swallowed by a sentient black hole.

The creatures on Aurora 5 behave differently and have different abilities and weaknesses. You’ll have to learn their behaviour and figure out how to exploit it, while also keeping an eye on the station itself. Security systems can be deadly, but you can potentially turn them into traps or even unlikely allies.

You can sneak around, hack things, create diversions, lure enemies into traps, use environmental hazards, find hidden routes, or just start blasting. Total avoidance is a perfectly valid strategy too, which I appreciate.

Then there are the Mutamods, which let you turn your character into increasingly ridiculous versions of themselves. They can improve stealth, combat, exploration and mobility, and you can become a tentacle-armed, mind-controlling, shadow-lurking mutant. The catch is that Mutamods can have unexpected and irreversible side effects.

RetroSpace is a disco-punk space horror, mixing retro-futurism, cosmic horror, dark humour and narrative-driven exploration. According to the devs, it’s a love letter to immersive games of yesteryear. Take a look at the latest trailer below.
