WASHINGTON – Emergency room visits for tick bites are spiking across the United States this summer, reaching levels not seen since 2017, according to new data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
CDC statistics, compiled with local and state health departments, show that July has already recorded the highest number of tick-related ER visits in eight years. The Northeast is reporting the most cases, followed by the Midwest and Southeast.
Children under 10 and adults over 70 are the most affected, with the highest rates of emergency room visits, the data show.
The CDC began tracking tick-related ER visits in 2017. This summer’s spike ranks second only to that inaugural year.
