Ingredients for Garlic Pepper Chicken
Chicken thighs: Boneless, skinless chicken thighs work especially well because they remain juicy and tender. Bone-in thighs can also be used, although the cooking time will need to be adjusted.
Garlic: Fresh minced garlic gives this dish its signature flavor. For the best result, use freshly minced garlic rather than relying entirely on garlic powder.
Black pepper: Freshly ground black pepper adds a warm, slightly spicy flavor. Since this is garlic pepper chicken, don’t be shy with the pepper.
Salt: Salt helps bring all of the flavors together.
Cooking oil: Use a neutral oil with a high enough smoke point for skillet cooking, such as avocado, canola, or vegetable oil.
Sauce – Soy Sauce along with oyester sauce, honey and sesame seed is whisked together, that is added to make the umami sauce.
Vegetables
Red pepper: Red bell pepper adds sweetness, color, and a pleasant crunch.
White onion: White onion becomes tender and lightly caramelized as it cooks, adding another layer of savory-sweet flavor.
You can also add vegetables such as mushrooms, broccoli, zucchini, or snap peas if you want to turn this into an even more substantial vegetable chicken skillet.
How to Make Garlic Pepper Chicken

1 – Marinate the chiken thigh pieces with salt, lots of fresh ground black pepper, minced garlic and lemon juice. Let it it marinate for at least couple hours or overnight.
2 – Heat a skillet and then add bitter along with oil and fry the marinated chicken for few minutes. Then take it off the pan.
3- To the same pan, add little more oil and add the sliced garlic. Stir and let it release the flavor.

4 – Add the sliced white onion and sliced red pepper and toss it around to cook for a while. You don’t want the vegetables to loose the crunch. Don’t add any salt.
5 – Add the fried chicken and toss it around.
6 – Prepare the sauce by mixing dark soy sauce, oyester sauce, sesame oil and honey.

7 – Pour the sauce to the pan and stir it around to coat everything in the sauce.
8 – Let it simmer for 5 minutes and then finish it with green onion.
Garlic pepper chicken has a savory, aromatic flavor with a noticeable kick from black pepper.
I served it with coconuut rice and it was delicious!

The garlic provides a deep, savory aroma, while freshly ground black pepper adds warmth and mild heat. The red pepper balances the dish with natural sweetness, and the white onion becomes soft and slightly caramelized as it cooks.
Chicken thighs are particularly good for this recipe because they have more natural flavor than very lean cuts of chicken and stay moist when properly cooked.
What to Serve with Garlic Pepper Chicken
This chicken is versatile enough to pair with almost any favorite side dish.
- Steamed white rice is one of the easiest options. The rice absorbs the flavorful juices from the chicken, garlic, onions, and peppers.
- Brown rice, jasmine rice, basmati rice, or cauliflower rice can also work well.
- For a comforting dinner, serve the chicken and vegetables over creamy mashed potatoes.
- Add roasted broccoli, Brussels sprouts, carrots, or green beans for a vegetable-packed dinner.
- Toss the chicken and peppers with your favorite noodles for an easy skillet noodle meal.
- For a lighter dinner, pair the chicken with a crisp green salad and a simple vinaigrette.
- If you’re looking for a comforting, hearty meal, warm garlic bread is an excellent choice for soaking up the flavorful juices.
Tips for Making the Best Garlic Pepper Chicken
Don’t Overcrowd the Skillet – If you put too much chicken into the pan at once, the temperature can drop and the chicken may steam rather than brown.
Cook in batches if necessary.
Pat the Chicken Dry – Dry chicken browns much better than wet chicken. A few seconds with paper towels can make a noticeable difference in the final texture.
Use Freshly Ground Black Pepper – Freshly ground black pepper has a much stronger aroma and flavor than pepper that has been sitting in the pantry for a long time.
Since pepper is one of the main flavors in this recipe, using freshly ground pepper can make the dish taste much more vibrant.
Don’t Burn the Garlic – Garlic can go from golden and fragrant to bitter surprisingly quickly.
If you’re cooking minced garlic directly in a very hot skillet, keep an eye on it. The goal is to release the garlic’s aroma without allowing it to burn.
Let the Chicken Rest – After cooking, allow the chicken to rest for a few minutes before serving. This gives the juices time to redistribute and helps keep the meat tender.
How to Make This Recipe Spicier
If you enjoy spicy food, there are several easy ways to increase the heat.
Add crushed red pepper flakes, cayenne pepper, sliced jalapeño, or a dash of your favorite hot sauce.
For a milder version, simply reduce the amount of black pepper and omit additional chili ingredients.

How to Store Leftover Garlic Pepper Chicken
Allow leftovers to cool and place them in an airtight container.
Store the chicken and vegetables in the refrigerator and use within 3 to 4 days.
For meal prep, divide the chicken, peppers, onions, and your preferred side dish into individual containers. Rice makes an especially convenient pairing for make-ahead lunches.
Reheat until the chicken is thoroughly hot.
Can You Freeze Garlic Pepper Chicken?
Yes. Cooked garlic pepper chicken can be frozen for longer storage.
Place completely cooled chicken and vegetables in a freezer-safe airtight container or freezer bag. Remove as much excess air as possible before sealing.
For best quality, use frozen leftovers within a few months.
Thaw safely in the refrigerator before reheating.
The texture of the peppers and onions may become slightly softer after freezing and thawing, but the chicken will still make a convenient meal.
