Guatemala Fuego Volcano erupts with evacuation and nationwide ‘danger’ alert

Both Conred and the National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (INSIVUMEH) have released statements commenting on the ongoing eruptions.

“The eruption is increasing its level of explosiveness. A lava fountain 200 to 300 meters high has developed above the crater (throwing incandescent material to all sides of the volcano),” said INSIVUMEH in a press release.

“As a preventive measure, evacuations are being carried out in the hamlet of El Porvenir and the village of Las Lajitas in the municipality of San Juan Alotenango in the department of Sacatepéquez,” Conred added.
