How Much Does Buy Before You Sell Cost?

A homeowner may still face lender charges, appraisal or valuation expenses, inspections, title or settlement charges, recording costs, insurance, taxes and prorations, brokerage expenses, repairs, preparation, moving, storage, and utilities. Which items apply depends on the properties, financing, state, contracts, and service providers. These are not all Buy Before You Sell charges, but they affect the household’s total cash requirement and final net proceeds.

Keep purchase costs and sale costs in separate columns. Keep cash due before closing separate from amounts deducted at closing. A cost paid from proceeds can still reduce net proceeds even when the homeowner does not write a check that day. A refundable deposit should not be grouped with a nonrefundable charge unless the agreement says when and how it is returned.
