MILWAUKEE — Liphatech has expanded its insect control product line with the addition of BugScents Sentry Pro, a reusable bed bug monitoring trap that uses a pheromone-based lure. Liphatech is now the exclusive U.S. distributor of the device to the professional pest management market.
The company partnered with Arctech Innovation Ltd., a U.K.-based research and development firm and creator of BugScents, to bring the technology to the U. S. The trap was developed in collaboration with the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
BugScents Sentry Pro uses a patented pheromone attractant and structural design to detect and trap bed bugs within 24 to 96 hours, even in the presence of a human host, the company reports. The trap targets all mobile life stages and is intended for use before, during and after treatment.
The device has been used by pest management professionals in Europe, where it has been deployed in residential and commercial settings such as hotels. The compact design allows for discreet placement under beds and other furniture. It can be installed vertically or horizontally.
The trap is reusable for about one year. Pheromone lures are effective for three months, and glueboards should be replaced every two to three months or when bed bugs are detected, Liphatech said. Replacement lures and glue boards are available separately.
“The technology behind BugScents Sentry Pro is based on bed bug biology and has been engineered with both pests and users in mind,” said Matt Titshaw, business manager at Liphatech.
Professor James Logan, CEO of Arctech Innovation, said the device will support professionals as global bed bug populations continue to rise.
Liphatech has also recently introduced Peritect 360 IC, an EPA 25(b) exempt insecticide, and IGI Carbon Dioxide, a fumigant used for insect control in commodity storage.
