When I was looking for a place to stay in Bali, my main considerations were to have an ample of green spaces allowing us to feel the authentic Bali atmosphere, affordable, yet, comfortable (and to have a pool is just a bonus). I wasn’t looking for a city hotel on a high floor or a condo with fancy amenities. That’s why when my friend recommended Mailaku House in Bali, I booked it right away with no hesitation!
Mailaku House Bali
Mailaku House has everything that I was looking for. The whole property is nature-inspired, clean, and there are poolside cabins that are so eye-catching.
Jec and I stayed in one of their poolside cabins (Lumbung Suite). What I instantly felt as we went inside was comfort, restfulness, and at the same time, excitement (because I can’t wait to take photos of each and every corner of this insta-worthy house!).

Considering Bali’s heat, of course, it has airconditioning and high ceiling. I could say that the size and space of the cabin is international-tourists friendly as it’s very roomy. In our home country, most of the A-houses and arched cabins in resorts are a bit claustrophobic that’s why this is quite a breath of fresh air!
It might not look that spacious in photos, but in actual it really feels huge. The bed is king-sized, and you can start estimating from there. Plus, when we put our luggage wide open on the floor while arranging our stuff, we could still walk around freely and comfortably. It never felt cramped.
I also liked that it has a spacious and “clean” dresser with hangers! It helped me organize our clothes properly. We did not need to endure the mess of taking our clothes from our luggage and bags every single time. Emphasis on “clean”, because we stayed in some other accommodations having closets as well but we end up not using them because it either has an awful smell, or looked dirty.

The house also has a basic kitchen with a functional mini ref where we stored some of our food and drinks, electric kettle for our morning hot coffee, and complete set of cups, saucers, and utensils. Bottled drinking water, tea, and instant coffee were also provided and replenished each day.
For the bathroom, it’s quite unique being semi-outdoor, yet, fully private and safe. Unfortunately, I forgot to take photos of it. But we’re actually thinking about copying the idea to our own home! There’s also a portable clothesline available where you can hang your clothes to dry, which is located at the unroofed part of the bathroom. The bathroom is complete with basic amenities like hot & cold shower, toilet bidet, and hairdryer. Provided also are shampoo, liquid bath soap, toilet papers, and dental kits that were replenished everyday.
There’s a TV available (though we’ve got no time to use it), just in case you need entertainment while resting. But hey, there’s a pool on the side and it’s not everyday that you get to stay in a place like this!

The front lanai of the cabin is such a relaxing spot to hang out. You can have your morning coffee sessions, late night talks, or afternoon break here while enjoying some snacks and the pool view.
Pool Area
The swimming pool is located right in front of the cabins, and is also easily accessible from the other accommodations. It’s not the largest pool there is, but enough for the property. There are poolside umbrellas, sun beds, and coffee table where you could relax or just space out.
The pool’s depth is I guess 4 feet on the adult area, and 2 feet on the kids area. Just enough for a morning or afternoon dip, or a night swim.

We had an afternoon swim here after a tiring, yet, wonderful day exploring Bali. And we had our floating breakfast here as well!
Floating Breakfast
Speaking of floating breakfast, Mailaku House also offers this in their menu, and it’s affordable, delicious, and of course, pretty!
We availed their Floating Breakfast Package for 190,000 IDR (or around 700 PHP), and a Smoothie Bowl for 45,000 IDR (or around 170 PHP).
Their floating breakfast schedule starts at 8 am. We initially requested to make it earlier around 7 am but they suggested that it’s best to stick to the schedule because that’s the time that the morning sun is perfect for the activity. And we’re so glad that we agreed!

I also appreciate that they let us use the giant inflatable duck. It added a playful vibe in the setup and made our photos pop-up in color!
Restaurant
Warung Mailaku, their in-house cafe & restaurant, easily became our daily dinner spot. Dining here was like going back home for a comfort-food dinner after a tiring day outside exploring Bali.
We ordered different meals each time we dine here so that we could taste as much delicacies as we can from their menu.
Here are the meals we’ve tried during our stay in Mailaku House:

Our main consideration when it comes to food in Bali was cleanliness. We were warned by our friend of the so called “Bali Belly” wherein people, especially first time tourists experienced upset stomach after eating at small warung places. We don’t want to risk the whole trip just by trying to satisfy our curiosity to experience local food at a small warung, that’s why Mailaku became our food hero!
The first time we tried their food, we haven’t experienced any stomach trouble. So we decided not to change restaurants, and dine here everyday after our tour. Of course, for the other meals of the day, we have no choice but to eat outside eventhough it’s pricey. As I’ve mentioned earlier, we can’t risk eating at other small warung especially that it’s our first time in Bali.
All the meals we tried in Mailaku were good and tasty. I noticed that they do not try to overdo the taste of their food that’s why we never felt fed-up or umay after eating. It was like when you suddenly craved for a food that’s usually served at a restaurant, and you requested your mom to cook it for you at home. It was satisfying. We felt at home by their food!
I’ve mentioned that their food is clean and tasty. But that’s not all. The price is another thing that we appreciate as it’s affordable and reasonable. They also accept credit card payments and the conversion was better than any other restaurants we’ve tried outside.
While writing this, I’m craving for their Tomato Bruschetta and Nasi Goreng Ayam! And how we miss the kind and hardworking staff: Madi, Ibu, and Edu.

Will I recommend Mailaku House Bali to others?
As much as I wanted to gate-keep this wonderful place, but I also want to give back to their great service. So I’m definitely recommending this to my friends, family, and to you, our readers!
We stayed here for 3 nights, eventhough we wanted to stay here for the whole trip. Unfortunately, the last night was not available anymore when I was trying to book (1 month before our travel date). I just (sadly) booked another hotel near the airport for our last night in Bali.
So if you’re planning for a longer stay in Mailaku, I suggest you book at least 2 months ahead.
And needless to say, we’ll definitely come back here on our next trips to Bali!
