Bucharest-based developer Amber Studio has confirmed that Mexican Ninja, a 2.5D roguelike beat ’em up described as fast-paced and gloriously over-the-top, will launch on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on 20th August 2026. The game drops players into Nuevo Tokyo, a city ruled by the Narkuzas, a criminal superpower born from the unholy union of Mexico’s Narcos and Japan’s Yakuza. A rebel faction on the outskirts of the city has had enough, and it falls to the Mexican Ninja to lead the uprising.

The combat system sits at the heart of the experience, built around precise movement, careful positioning, and well-timed attacks. According to Amber Studio, the fighting is designed to be accessible for newcomers while offering enough depth to reward dedicated players who put in the hours. Each duel carries weight, and the game leans into the spectacle of it all with what the developer calls “gore-splashed flair” across stylised, street-level environments.

As a rogue-lite, no two playthroughs will be identical. Levels are randomised, weapons evolve in increasingly extravagant directions, and each run introduces new ninja skills unlocked through training with El Mero Mero Sensei. Players can also earn the favour of Mexican-Japanese spirits, gaining access to their powers and unleashing special abilities known as Mexican Jutsus. A skill tree described as the “Way of the Donkey” lets players build and experiment with different combos and power combinations, while hidden cosmetic items let players dress the part of a revolutionary worth following.

Creative Director Dario Hoyo summed up the ethos behind the project in the announcement: “Every parry, every jutsu, every run is about that feeling of getting knocked down and standing back up with more swagger than before. Mexican Ninja has always been a vibe, a spirit, a way of being and now players everywhere can find their inner donkey.” It is a statement that captures the tone of the game rather well, blending arcade brawling with a colourful sense of identity that sets it apart from the usual roguelike crowd.

Mexican Ninja launches on 20th August 2026 for PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Those interested can wishlist and follow the game now to keep up with further news. Additional assets and information are available via the official press kit.
