Pre- Preseason Savvy Index Top 25 for 2026 – Savvy Game Line
Another season of college football!
Last season was the first time ever that the big betting houses beat Savvy Index in predicting which college football teams would win their games. Those oddsmakers were 1% better.
However, Savvy Index was a whopping 42 games better in setting over/under point spreads and 25 games better in setting over/under total game points.
This year, I see Savvy sweeping that trifecta in convincing fashion.
I’m less concerned about the betting houses than I am this vexing WordPress (WP) format for presenting Savvy Index. You see, the wonderful people at WP have discontinued their “classic editor” which was an easy and free method of producing the pertinent parts of the Savvy spreadsheets.
Without that feature, users like me are forced to pay hundreds of dollars for an upgrade and a special plug-in.
Since Savvy is free and for fun and not a business, I’ve had to find a work-around. It isn’t easy and it isn’t the best, but at least it works.
I’ve tried to keep my chin up through all of this but it’s like the day I visited my distressed friend in the hospital and I couldn’t remember her blood type. She kept screaming, “Be positive! Be positive!”
I’ve tried. Really I have. But, it’s hard without her.
And that’s saying something because I really do have the heart of a lion. Of course, I also now have a restraining order from the zoo.
Ohio State once again leads Savvy Index pre-preseason charts with Notre Dame second and Oregon third.
Indiana won the national championship last season with a perfect record, the Heisman winner, and two-possession wins over some of FBS’ top programs. Yet, Savvy Index and others don’t show the Hoosiers in the top five. I personally think Curt Cignetti is reason enough to put IU in the top three, but hey, my job is only to explain Savvy’s algorhythmic conclusions as best I can.
In Indiana’s case, Savvy seems to reckon that the Hoosiers are not yet a “program” and one super season is not enough to say that they are. In gridiron speculations, perennial programs are preferred because they are more likely to produce accuracy.
Savvy Index will recalculate new data after Summer workouts and, if there are significant changes, updated rankings will be presented.
