Here is an easy rava kesari recipe in a pressure cooker in South Indian style for beginners. This is a super soft, fool proof, lump free, beginners friendly recipe with perfect ratio of Rava, Sugar, Water and Ghee. It is a go to sweet/ Dessert in any Indian family because of its simple ingredients. we call it as Rava Kesari in Tamil, Kesaribath in Kannada and Sheera in Hindi. This pressure cooker rava kesari recipe was in my try list for years.

At last I made it for New year celebration in my new stainless steel 1.5 liters small Hawkins pressure cooker by referring Jeyashris kitchen and some other recipes. Its so easy to make and came out really well in my first attempt itself. I would say its a beginners friendly recipe. Just follow the ingredients measurements, ratio and method carefully. You will get perfect, soft rava kesari without lumps to serve your family and guest. You can try the same in instant pot as well.
Mostly people use 1:3 ratio of rava and water for Kesari recipe. But I use 1:4 to make it without lumps and super soft. Also 1:2 ratio of Rava and sugar is followed by many but I use little less according to my family’s taste. So please adjust the quantity of water and sugar as per your need. I have used sugar in this recipe. You can also use jaggery / Naatu sakkarai instead. Friends, do try this easy rava kesari recipe in pressure cooker. I am sure you will love it and do this often in your kitchen. Ok, lets see the recipe with step by step pictures and video.

Rava Kesari Recipe – Pressure cooker Rava Kesari Recipe
Easy, lump free, fool proof Rava kesari recipe in a pressure cooker
Prevent your screen from going dark
To roast in ghee
- 2 tbsp Ghee
- 2 tbsp Cooking oil
- 10 Cashew nuts
- ½ cup Rava / Sooji / Semolina / Bombay Rava You can also use Chiroti rava
To boil
- ¾ cup Sugar Use 1 cup for more sweetness
- 1.75 cups Water You can use 1.5 cups for fluffy kesari
- ½ tsp Cardamom powder
- 1 pinch Orange food color
Switch off the roasted rava in the cooker and then add the water to it. Water splashes. So stand at a safe distance.
Do not forget to put the weight valve after adding the water. Rava gets cooked well in the steam.
You should do the roasting process and sugar syrup boiling parallely in two burners. Otherwise Kesari won’t turn out soft and well cooked.
Rava should be roasted well but make sure color is not dark.
For variations, you can also use ghee, rava, sugar and water in the ratio of 1:2:3:4 which is 1/4 cup of ghee, 1/2 cup rava, 3/4 cup sugar and 2 cups water.
If you want to double the recipe, please make sure you use a bigger sized cooker of atleast 3 liters.
