HYDERABAD: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Telangana has entered a crucial stage, with the Election Commission of India (ECI) identifying around 92.8 lakh electors for notices over data anomalies or because their current records could not be mapped to the 2002 electoral rolls.
The notices are part of the verification process following publication of the Telangana SIR draft electoral roll on August 17, 2026. Around 60.5 lakh electors have been flagged for anomalies in their enumeration data, while another 32.3 lakh could not be mapped to the 2002 SIR rolls.
Voters who receive a notice should not ignore it. A notice does not mean that a voter has been permanently removed from the electoral roll. It means the voter has to provide the required information or documents for verification. The notice itself will contain the applicable instructions, including details of any hearing or documents required.
How to Check Your SIR Notice Online
The ECI has provided an online facility called “Submit Document Against Notice issued” on the Voters’ Service Portal.
- Visit the official ECI Voters’ Service Portal: voters.eci.gov.in
- Log in: Sign in using your registered mobile number and password. New users can create an account using the Sign Up option.
- Select the SIR service: On the portal, look for “Submit Document Against Notice issued” under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 section.
- Enter your details: Enter your EPIC/Voter ID number or the notice reference number, as applicable.
- Verify with OTP: Enter the OTP received during the verification process.
If a notice is available, the portal can display the relevant notice details and the documents or verification requirements applicable to the case. The online process allows supporting documents to be submitted where the facility is available.
What Does the Result Mean?
If No Notice Is Displayed
If no notice is shown against your EPIC number, it generally means that there is currently no notice available for you through the notice-submission facility. However, voters should still check whether their name appears in the SIR 2026 draft electoral roll, particularly if they submitted an enumeration form or have concerns about their entry.
A “No Record Found” result should therefore not automatically be interpreted as a final confirmation that your voter record is completely clear.
If a Notice Is Displayed
Download or save the notice and carefully check the reason for the notice, the documents requested, the response procedure and, where applicable, the hearing date and location.
Notices can relate to unmapped records or discrepancies in the information submitted during the SIR process. Reported logical discrepancies can include unusual age or relationship gaps and inconsistencies between current enumeration details and the 2002 electoral roll.
What to Do If You Receive an SIR Notice
Voters who receive a notice should take the following steps:
- Read the notice carefully: Identify the exact reason for the notice and the response required.
- Check the document requirements: The documents required can vary depending on the reason for the notice and the voter’s circumstances.
- Submit documents online where available: The ECI portal provides a dedicated facility for responding to SIR notices.
- Attend the hearing if required: If the notice specifies a hearing before the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or another election official, attend on the date and at the location mentioned in the notice.
- Keep copies of everything submitted: Retain the notice, uploaded documents and acknowledgement/reference number for future tracking.
Voters should not assume that the same set of documents will be required in every case. The documents requested can differ according to the reason for the notice.
Why Are 92.8 Lakh Voters Receiving Notices?
The Telangana SIR exercise has identified two major groups for further verification.
- About 60.5 lakh electors: Records flagged for anomalies or inconsistencies in the enumeration data.
- About 32.3 lakh electors: Records that could not be mapped to the 2002 SIR electoral rolls.
Together, these groups account for approximately 92.8 lakh electors who are to be served notices.
73.39 Lakh Electors Excluded From the Draft Roll
The draft electoral roll published on August 17 also excluded 73,39,235 electors under the ASDD category. The category covers electors identified as Absent, Shifted, Dead or Duplicate/Already Enrolled, along with a smaller “other” category in the official classification.
According to figures released by the Telangana Chief Electoral Office, the 73.39 lakh figure includes 9,22,229 electors classified as dead, 11,25,546 as absent or untraceable, 45,18,963 as permanently shifted, 6,70,203 as already enrolled and 1,02,294 under other categories.
Being excluded from the draft roll does not necessarily mean that a genuine voter has permanently lost voting rights. Eligible voters can use the claims and objections process to seek inclusion or correction, subject to the applicable ECI procedures.
What Is the Deadline for Claims and Objections?
For Telangana, the claims and objections period following publication of the draft electoral roll is scheduled to run from August 17 to September 16, 2026. The notice and disposal process is scheduled to continue until October 15, with the final electoral roll scheduled for publication on October 19, 2026.
Voters whose names are missing from the draft roll, or who find incorrect information in their entry, should use the appropriate ECI claim, objection or correction process rather than waiting until the final roll is published.

Important: Do Not Ignore an SIR Notice
The issuance of an SIR notice does not by itself mean that a voter’s name has been permanently deleted. It is part of the verification process intended to establish the eligibility and correctness of entries before the final electoral roll is prepared.
However, voters who receive a notice should respond within the applicable timeframe and follow the instructions given by the election authorities. Those who find their names missing from the draft roll should also check the claims and objections process immediately.
