THE TOKYO 2020 THREAT – SPORTS BONAZA

Talk about the excitement and anticipation that comes with the Olympics! Well, that is not seeming to be the case in this years most watched sporting event. The coronavirus scare has now shown fully in the picture and threatens to the postponement or even calling off of the event. The COVID-19 virus sparked off in Wuhan China early in January this year and does not seem to let go of its spread. As at 2nd March, more than 3,000 deaths were reported and more than 89,000 cases of infection recorded.

Infections have hit more than 60 countries with China being top of the list. This means that Asia has been hard hit, not forgetting that Japan is an Asian country and host to the summer games. The International Olympic Committee has remained numb on this issue but is expected to make its statement later on today. This comes even after there have been fears of the virus spreading during the Olympics. An epidermic during the Olympics will mean the ballooning of problems in most nations since the games have participants from over 100 countries. Fingers are still crossed for the sports fraternity.
