TEZU, 8 Jul: Two workers were killed after a major landslide struck a construction site at Lohitpur in Lohit district on Wednesday.
According to initial reports, six workers were trapped in the landslide. Upon receiving the information, teams from the Lohit District Police, SDRF, district administration, Army, and other agencies immediately rushed to the site and launched a joint rescue operation.
Speaking to this daily, Lohit superintendent of police Thutan Jamba said that four of the six trapped workers were rescued safely.
“All the trapped persons were subsequently rescued and evacuated to the Zonal General Hospital, Tezu, for medical treatment. Unfortunately, two workers, identified as 26-year-old Rahul Kumar and 33-year-old Bipin Kumar, succumbed to their injuries and were declared dead at the hospital,” the SP said.
He added that post-mortem examinations were conducted, following which the bodies will be handed over to the victims’ families. Meanwhile, the condition of the four injured workers is reported to be stable.
