Situated in northern Virginia, Arlington stands out as a remarkable fusion of rich historical heritage and breathtaking natural beauty!
Arlington is situated immediately across the Potomac River from Washington D.C., facilitating swift access to the capital’s extensive array of attractions. Arlington encompasses notable landmarks, including Arlington National Cemetery, the Pentagon, and the Iwo Jima Memorial, each of which provides valuable insights into the historical narrative of the United States. Moreover, the region is enriched by various parks and recreational trails, such as the Arlington Memorial Bridge and the scenic Potomac River waterfront, which enhance its aesthetic appeal.
One of the most profound attractions is the Arlington National Cemetery, with its stunning landscapes and the solemn Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, where you can witness the changing of the guard. Just a short distance away, the National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial offers a reflective space honoring the lives lost during the tragic events of September 11, 2001. The iconic U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial, depicting the famous flag raising at Iwo Jima, is another must-see, providing both a striking visual and a moment of contemplation.
Arlington’s proximity to Washington D.C. enables visitors to conveniently explore the various attractions in Virginia as well as the significant landmarks, memorials, and museums across the Potomac River in Washington D.C.!
Home to several national monuments and memorials, Arlington is often mistaken to be part of Washington, D.C. However, despite its proximity to Washington D.C., Arlington is physically located in the state of Virginia, which is home to several other attractions, including many historical sites, mountain vistas, museums, lush gardens, and sparkling beaches. You can discover all of Virginia’s attractions in my Virginia Travel Guide. I highly recommend visiting a few other attractions in Virginia and/or Washington D.C. when visiting Arlington.
