Spend the day strolling from shop to shop, finding everything from antique treasures to artisanal goods and handcrafted souvenirs. The Mast General Store is a downtown staple that feels like stepping back in time. This beloved mercantile has something for everyone under one roof—squeaky hardwood floors and all.

From nostalgic candies and old-fashioned toys to top-of-the-line outdoor gear, boutique clothing, cast-iron skillets, local honey, and handcrafted gifts, Mast General is one of the most fun and eclectic places to shop on Main Street. It’s hard to walk out of this emporium empty-handed.

Find Your Next Book

A wall made from books at M. Judson Booksellers

Stop at M. Judson Booksellers, a beloved indie bookstore tucked inside the historic downtown courthouse building. You can find your next great read at this cozy book shop. Once you do, pull up a chair in their charming literary café, where you can sip a signature latte, snack on baked treats or small bites, and even unwind with a glass of wine or a cold beer.

Can’t decide what to read? Go on a blind date—one of my favorite features here. They wrap random books in brown paper with a mysterious little note about the book’s personality (aka the plot). You won’t know what you are getting until you unwrap it!

Go on a Mouse Hunt

Mice have taken over Main Street, and I mean that in a good way! Nine tiny bronze mouse statues are scattered around downtown Greenville, each hidden in plain sight for visitors.

Inspired by the beloved children’s book Goodnight Moon, these little creatures are part of a playful scavenger hunt perfect for kids and adults alike. It’s also a creative and interactive way to discover the city on your first day.

Remember Mast General Store? Head there to grab a clue sheet, or swing by the Visitor Center, and see how many you can find as you explore downtown. Sadly, I didn’t find them all, but maybe you can!

Treat Yourself!

Head to Spill the Beans near Falls Park for a sweet treat with a view. They specialize in custom-blended ice cream and smooth coffee.

You can choose your ice cream base, select various toppings, and watch as they blend it all into a creamy, custom creation.

Try my creation! I combined fresh strawberries and cheesecake bites to create a delicious strawberry cheesecake ice cream.

Whether you are after a creamy ice cream or a warm cup of coffee, Spill the Beans has the perfect indulgence while enjoying views of the falls.

Falls Park on the Reedy

The 40-foot waterfall at Falls Park on the Reedy

Falls Park on the Reedy is one of Greenville’s most iconic spots and a must-visit during your weekend. This lush green space, located in the heart of downtown, is home to a stunning 40-foot waterfall that cascades over rocky cliffs, creating a peaceful oasis amidst the city’s hustle and bustle.

The park features beautifully landscaped gardens, winding paths, and the famous 345-foot-long Liberty Bridge, suspended high above the Reedy River. Spend the afternoon walking across the bridge, soaking in breathtaking views of the falls, and feeling the thrill of the bridge swaying beneath your feet.

Get Your Game On!

If you are spending the weekend in Greenville with family or friends, Group Therapy is a must-visit spot for fun activities in one place. Whether you are testing your skills at mini golf, axe throwing, duckpin bowling, or enjoying yard games and karaoke, there’s something here for everyone.

Kids are welcome until 8 p.m., after which the vibe shifts to 18 and older, making it the perfect spot for families and adults at different times of the day. It’s a great place to spend a few hours, whether bonding with the family or letting loose with friends!

Rooftop Sunset Drinks

The view from Up on the Roof

There’s no better way to take in the beauty of Greenville than by grabbing a drink at one of its rooftop bars and watching the sunset with a cocktail in hand. As the sun dips below the horizon, the city skyline is bathed in a warm golden glow, making for the perfect backdrop to your evening.

Two of the best rooftop bars in Greenville are Juniper and Up on the Roof. I enjoyed a cocktail by a fire pit with sweeping skyline views at Up on the Roof. It’s a laid-back yet stylish rooftop bar where you can kick back, soak in the unbeatable views, and enjoy the last few hours of your day in Greenville.

Day 2: Wheels, Wine, and Wonder

The second day of your weekend in Greenville is all about adventure with a side of indulgence. Start your morning pedaling along the famous Swamp Rabbit Trail to a cute small town known for its delicious crêpes.

In the afternoon, dive into Greenville’s rich history and arts scene with a visit to one of its many museums before unwinding with a glass of wine at a local vineyard. Whether you are sipping, strolling, or spinning your wheels, today promises a perfect mix of movement, flavor, and discovery.

Cruise Through Greenville

Biking a portion of the Swamp Rabbit Trail

Take a guided bike tour or rent an e-bike and cruise along the Swamp Rabbit Trail—a beautiful 28-mile greenway connecting Greenville to Travelers Rest. The scenic trail winds along the Reedy River, through parks, and past charming neighborhoods.

With an e-bike, it’s not just an easy ride—it’s pure fun! This was my first time riding an e-bike, and I LOVED it. It felt thrilling because you can zip along at speeds of up to 20 mph, but it feels like being in a convertible with the top down at 60 mph!

The best part? I barely broke a sweat during my two-hour ride—the bike does most of the hard work for you, leaving you free to enjoy the ride and the scenery.

I highly recommend taking a peaceful detour through Furman University, one of the most picturesque college campuses in the United States. You can bike a portion or all of the 1.5-mile loop around their 40-acre, spring-fed lake, lined with trees and anchored by the iconic bell tower. It’s a perfect spot to slow down, snap a few photos, and soak up the beauty of the morning.

Fuel up for your ride with a cup of coffee and freshly baked pastries at Swamp Rabbit Cafe & Grocery. This popular café is conveniently located right off the Swamp Rabbit Trail. The lattes, smoothies, fresh pastries, and farm-to-table breakfast items are the perfect start to an active day.

Crêpes and Coffee

After working up an appetite, stop at Tandem Crêperie and Coffeehouse in Travelers Rest for a well-deserved treat. This cheerful yellow house-turned-café is a local favorite, serving up heavenly sweet and savory crêpes that are nothing short of delicious.

It’s become an iconic brunch spot along the Swamp Rabbit Trail, offering a cozy, welcoming atmosphere perfect for refueling after your ride. Be prepared for long wait times, especially on weekends, but trust me—it’s worth the wait!

Must order: Lumberjack for something savory and Blueberry Cream for something sweet, paired with a Honey Lavender Latte or Iced Coffee Horchata.

Wander Through Museums

After a morning on the trails, visit one (or two) of Greenville’s museums. Most are within steps of each other, making it easy to spend an afternoon wandering through art, history, and local culture. Whether you are a museum buff or just looking for a relaxing way to explore indoors, Greenville’s museum scene has something for everyone.

Traveling with kids? The Children’s Museum of the Upstate is one of the largest children’s museums in the country and a guaranteed hit. I’ve visited many children’s museums, and this one easily ranks among the best. It has many hands-on exhibits that will keep little ones entertained for hours. I cannot wait to return with my kids because I know they will have the best time here.

If you’re craving a deeper dive into the arts or local history, visit the Greenville County Museum of Art and the Upcountry History Museum. The Greenville County Museum of Art houses one of the world’s largest collections of Andrew Wyeth watercolors, while the Upcountry History Museum uncovers stories that shaped the region.

Music lovers should check out the Sigal Music Museum, home to an extensive collection of working harpsichords and pianos dating back to the 1500s. Baseball fans won’t want to miss the Shoeless Joe Jackson Museum, a lovely tribute to one of Greenville’s most famous hometown heroes.

Savor the Countryside

Trade the city for the countryside with a visit to City Scape Winery. This laid-back, family-owned winery offers tastings and small bites of food in a peaceful setting.

Sip the day away with a glass of wine or a tasting flight, and pair it with one of City Scape Winery’s famous dips, such as the Blueberry Whipped Feta—if it is on the menu, definitely order it! Settle in by the cozy fireplace or relax on the patio, where rows of vineyard views create the perfect serene escape.

Day 3: Hiking Adventures and Day Trips

On your final day, venture beyond the city to explore the stunning natural beauty surrounding Greenville. Take a short drive to some of the most breathtaking viewpoints in the Carolinas, chase waterfalls at a nearby state park, and wind down by spotting birds in a peaceful nature preserve.

See Where the Sky Meets the Mountains

Start your morning with a scenic drive to Caesars Head State Park, where the adventure begins only a few steps from the Visitor Center parking lot. A short walk leads you to the scenic overlook, offering jaw-dropping panoramic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains—a perfect spot to take in the natural beauty.

I recommend the Raven Cliff Falls Trail if you’re up for a hike. This 4.4-mile, moderately challenging out-and-back trail is one of the most popular in the park. It leads you to an incredible overlook, offering a stunning view of Raven Cliff Falls, the tallest waterfall in South Carolina at 420 feet, cascading down the cliffside.

Recipe tips iconRecipe tips icon Pro Tip

Visiting the scenic overlook at Caesars Head State Park is FREE, but if you plan to hike, you must pay a $3 parking fee—available online or at the visitor center.

Worship with a View

While in the area, don’t miss a visit to Pretty Place Chapel (officially known as Fred W. Symmes Chapel). It’s a short, 20-minute drive from Caesars Head State Park, and well worth the detour.

Perched atop Stone Mountain at 3,200 feet, Pretty Place Chapel is easily one of the most scenic chapels in the country. The chapel’s open-air design with sweeping views of the Blue Ridge Mountains as the backdrop behind the cross offers a peaceful setting perfect for self-reflection or a quiet moment of prayer.

Recipe tips iconRecipe tips icon Pro Tip

Check the Pretty Place Chapel website in advance. It is often closed for private events, especially on weekends during peak seasons. I made the mistake of not checking, and it was closed when I visited, but I look forward to returning with the family!

Chase Waterfalls

Enjoying the cascading waterfall at Paris Mountain State Park

On your way back to Greenville, stop at Paris Mountain State Park and stretch your legs on one of its 15 miles of hiking and biking trails. The Lake Placid Trail is a short and easy loop along the lakeshore, where you can spot wildlife.

If you’re up for something more challenging, the Sulphur Springs Trail is a 3.8-mile, moderately strenuous hike on a rugged trail with elevation gains. It’s one of the most popular hikes in the park—and for good reason.

You will pass multiple waterfalls and follow a scenic creek with a constant soundtrack of rushing water. Despite slipping a few times (and dropping my phone in a stream), I found this hike incredibly rewarding.

Spot Birds Along the Boardwalk

If you still have time (and energy!), make one final nature stop at Conestee Nature Preserve. This 600-acre wildlife sanctuary is a haven for nature lovers, with miles of boardwalks and trails that wind through wetlands, forests, and meadows.

More than 200 bird species have been spotted at the preserve, making it one of the premier birdwatching destinations in the region. Along the trails, you will find quiet observation decks for optimal birdwatching. If you’re traveling with kids, they will love playing on the nature playscape—an inviting space designed to help children learn through play, exploration, and imagination.

Where to Eat

Greenville has earned its spot as one of “The Best Food Cities in the U.S.” by Travel + Leisure and as an “Unexpected U.S. Foodie Destination” by Lonely Planet. As a foodie and professionally trained pastry chef, I could have easily spent the entire weekend eating my way through Greenville, just like a weekend in New York City—only with a delicious Southern flair.

From delicious local restaurants serving Southern classics to international flavors, trendy cocktail bars, and irresistible dessert spots, Greenville is a food lover’s paradise. Here are a few must-try places to eat during your weekend in Greenville.

Coffee Underground

Coffee Underground is a true hidden gem, literally tucked below ground level—but it’s no secret to locals. This longtime favorite feels like a cozy speakeasy for coffee lovers, with its exposed brick walls, comfy nooks, and artsy vibe.

The coffee is some of the best in town, with beans roasted on-site and a menu full of unique lattes, frozen drinks, breakfast bites, tasty subs, and decadent desserts.

Looking for something to do in the evening? Coffee Underground is more than a cozy café—it’s also home to a small black-box theater that hosts local comedy and improv shows. Check out their event schedule to catch a show during your weekend in Greenville.

Brick Street Café is a quirky bakery and restaurant known for its vintage vibe and decadent desserts. While the full menu features Southern comfort food, the real star here is the cake, especially the famous Sweet Potato Cake, which is precisely why I chose to dine here.

The recipe is so secret that only the owner knows it, and they make the batter fresh daily. After one bite, I understood the hype. It is a soft, flavorful cake—and no, you cannot taste the sweet potatoes. Truly, it is a slice of heaven, and you must try it yourself!

The Trappe Door is a hidden gem to visitors, but a beloved local institution. Before my trip, I scoured the internet for the best places to eat in Greenville, and this spot kept popping up. So, I had to see what the buzz was about. One step through the door, and I instantly got it.

This underground Belgian restaurant feels both rustic and refined. Walk downstairs, and suddenly you’re no longer in Greenville but in a cozy Belgian tavern. The menu has traditional European comfort food, from moules frites to rich stews, and an impressive beer list with over 100 options, including authentic Trappist ales brewed by Trappist monks in monasteries.

The Trappe Door isn’t just a meal—it’s a place to slow down, savor, and appreciate Belgian cuisine and beer. I highly recommend reservations for any day of the week!

Must order: Moules Frites, Steak Frites, or Seafood Waterzooi with a Belgian beer.

Soby’s is a cornerstone of downtown Greenville’s dining scene—an iconic restaurant you cannot miss during your weekend in Greenville.

It’s a New Southern cuisine restaurant inside a two-story old warehouse with interior brick walls. The restaurant feels historic and stylish, blending Southern hospitality with elevated comfort food in a warm, upscale setting.

The menu is a modern take on classic Southern dishes, featuring staples like shrimp and grits, fried green tomatoes, crab cakes (said to be better than any in Baltimore), and she crab soup. Pair your meal with a glass from their award-winning wine selection or a handcrafted cocktail.

Whether you sit inside or on the patio overlooking Main Street, Soby’s delivers a memorable meal that captures the heart and flavor of Greenville.

Must order: She Crab Soup, Crab Cakes, Shrimp and Grits, and White Chocolate Banana Cream Pie.

The Anchorage

If you’re looking for an exceptional culinary experience, you must dine at The Anchorage, one of Greenville’s most acclaimed restaurants. This neighborhood gem has such a warm and inviting dining room that it feels like walking into a friend’s home for dinner, only this time, it’s an exquisite, chef-driven meal.

The Anchorage focuses on small, refined plates. Its ever-changing menu highlights the best locally sourced ingredients of the season. You can order à la carte or try the tasting menu for an unforgettable culinary journey.

It’s the perfect spot for foodies like me, who love to try a little bit of everything.

Must order: I highly recommend the tasting menu for an amazing dining experience.
