DLC titanium comes to the Excalibur Monobalancier and Orbis in Machina – HOROLOGIUM

Roger Dubuis has used black DLC-treated titanium for the cases of two new variations on existing models – meet the Excalibur Monobalancier Titanium and the limited edition Orbis in Machina Central Monotourbillon. It’s about nothing but black.

First up, the Excalibur Monobalancier Titanium (DBEX1136) comes in a 42mm sized case with water resistance of 100m. Its case back, bezel, and crown are also black DLC titanium. The black dial has a flange with an engraved minute track and transferred texts, and the polished grey hour markers have Super-LumiNova.

Powering this new watch is the automatic RD720SQ (‘SQ’ stands for ‘squelette’ i.e. skeletonised) which has sand-blasted mainplate and bridges. Beating at 28,800 VPH, it has a power reserve of 72 hours.

The Excalibur Monobalancier Titanium comes on a rubber strap with a black DLC triple folding buckle and of course there’s the Roger Dubuis Quick Release System should you wish to change straps.

Next up is the Excalibur Orbis in Machina Central Monotourbillon (DBEX1157). Limited to twenty-eight pieces, its black DLC titanium case is 45mm with water resistance of 50m. Given the material of the launch model of the Orbis in Machina, one of my favourite pieces from 2024 but in pink gold, of a heft that is not for everyone, a lighter variant is appealing. As with the first piece, the black DLC titanium case (both front and back) has a black DLC titanium bezel and crown.

As you may recall, the multi-level dial displays hours, minutes and seconds alongside highlighting the monotourbillon. There is a double surface flange, satin-brushed, with transferred texts, and polished rose gold-plated hour markers with Super-LumiNova. The open-worked hour and minute hands are brass rose gold-plated, satin-brushed, and have Super-LumiNova on inner faces, and fixed on a rotating disc.

Powering it is, of course, the manually-wound skeletonised RD 115 which beats at 21,600 VPH and has a power reserve of 72 hours. It’s also about curves here, with rounder lines. There are shot-blasted and circular grained plates and bridges with NAC coating.

As with the Excalibur Monobalancier Titanium, the Orbis in Machina Central Monotourbillon in DLC titanium also comes on a calf strap with a black DLC titanium triple folding buckle with a Quick Release System.
