A married Irish woman could face 18 months in jail after she was charged with groping a man nearly 20 years younger than her. The 38-year-old woman allegedly touched the genitals of a Swedish man whilst in the spa of a four-star hotel in the Spanish party resort of Magaluf, reports say.
The woman, who has not been named and lives in County Cork, was 37 at the time of the alleged incident, while the man was 18. She has appeared before a court where she was told she faces 18 months in prison if convicted. She was released on bail by the investigating magistrate.
According to the Daily Mail, the woman was told she was free to travel back home pending a criminal probe that is ongoing.
The alleged sexual assault is said to have happened on June 3 at the Hotel Martinique at around 6pm.
A three-page indictment from prosecutors says the woman sat beside the man in a Turkish steam bath and “with a lustful spirit, taking advantage of the fact that no one else was there and against his will, put her hands on his genitals and fondled them until he said: ‘No, no, no’ and left.”
In addition to the prison sentence, prosecutors also reportedly want the woman banned from working for minors for two more years than the jail term given and made to pay court costs if convicted.
They also want her to pay her male accuser £440 in compensation.
Earlier reports claimed the woman was with her husband when she was arrested.
It is claimed the possibility of a pre-trial hearing, to see whether a plea bargain deal could be agreed, has not been ruled out.
The woman’s lawyer earlier this year said he was going to ask for the case against his client to be “discontinued” as he “didn’t consider a crime had taken place”.
Currently, no date for the trial has been set, reports say.
