UK design house signs up 2.5G and 3G infrastructureRichard Wilson
Bristol-based design consultancy Toracomm is to design a range of RF power amplifier modules for Cree subsidiary UltraRF of Sunnyvale, California.
“We will design and produce prototype units for various frequencies at various powers for 2.5G and 3G wireless infrastructure,” said Simon Swales, business development manager at Toracomm.
The deal is on the back of an earlier project, just finished, where Toracomm developed two 1800 MHz power amplifiers for UltraRF.
The modules use UltraRF components on an alumina substrate.
Four-year old Toracomm first came to the attention of UltraRF after the Bristol company designed power amps for a third party using UltraRF components. “That is when we got talking to them,” said Swales.
Toracomm is a 20 person DSP and RF consultancy. “A lot of us came out of the University of Bristol,” said Swales. “We have not sought investment but have been building slowly on our developments.” www.toracomm.co.uk
