•Southern Glazer’s has appointed company veteran Scott Oppenheimer as commercial sales advisor, reporting to chief commercial officer John Wittig. In his new role, Oppenheimer will serve as chairman of Southern Glazer’s Travel Retail Sales & Export Division, formerly WEBB Banks, while also working closely with Wittig on the company’s overall Canadian commercial strategy. He’ll also advise Wittig’s commercial office on major initiatives and project management across Southern Glazer’s four operating regions. Oppenheimer joined Southern Glazer’s in 2002 and was most recently President, East Region. The announcement of his replacement in that role will be forthcoming.
•Louisville, Kentucky’s Michter’s has announced the 2025 bottling of US*1 Barrel Proof rye. This year’s batch, approved by master distiller Dan McKee and master of maturation Andrea Wilson, comes in at an average abv of 55.25% and is made from a Kentucky-style rye mash that uses a large portion of corn as its secondary grain. The whiskey carries a suggested price of $120 and will roll out in limited quantities across the U.S. in early March.
•Skurnik Wines & Spirits has acquired wine-on-tap pioneer The Gotham Project. The price was not disclosed. The deal includes both production operations and distribution rights. Founded in 2010 by Bruce Schneider and Charles Bieler, The Gotham Project has offered kegged and canned wines from France, Italy, California, New York, and Washington, among others. Skurnik has worked with the Gotham Project since its inception, making on-premise inroads in the New York market. “Bringing Gotham into the fold here at Skurnik, we are strengthening our ability to support restaurant and hospitality partners with an even more sustainable wine-on-tap program,” said David Skurnik, executive vice president.
