Momentary Lily – Episode 13 (END) – The Aftermath of Balor’s Defeat

The original Sanzaka and Hinageshi enjoying the world without the threat of Wild Hunts.

After Renge finally defeats Balor after sacrificing herself, although it’s obvious what happened afterward, how did everything ended?

While Balor is gone, Renge passed away.

In the end, Balor is defeated, but it comes at a cost. Sure, Ayame, Sanzaka, Erika, and Hinageshi become sad. That is when Renge passes away after defeating Balor. Sure, Ayame knew this would happen, although she needed Renge to sacrifice herself to defeat Balor. Sanzaka tries to calm Ayame down that Renge would come no matter what Ayame would say.

At least Tyrfingr came back.
Erika welds the Tyrfingr.

That said, they finish off the remaining hordes of Wild Hunts. This time, Tyrfingr acts on its own. Renge entrusted it to her friends to use as Erika welds this Andvari now.

Yuri and Nerine helps out at the base.

With that leaves us with the epilogue. We see the original Yuri, Nerine, Ayame, Sanzaka, Erika, and Hinageshi settling down at Shitoron’s base with Suzu and her team of survivors there. We also get a throwback of the first episode with a shy girl in the same fashion as Renge, who is quite cute.

This girl is acting familiar to Renge.
We are back where it all started.
Ayame and the rest of the girls have a mission to complete.

They also show some old cooking videos Renge made. Of course, this girl doesn’t want to get left alone as she follows Ayame and the others when they have to deal with a wild hunt. They also showed off their weapons, and Tryfingr defeated the wild hunt. Ayame and her friends explain the mission of defeating the remaining Wild Hunts so they don’t harm the remaining survivors. They promise that they can become friends once they defeat them.

Final Thoughts

Sure, this show’s story may be a mess with some surprising deaths, like the clone Yuri very early on and eventually Renge sacrificing herself, but it had some interesting stuff. Yes, the world is in a mess because an entity wants to observe the life forms and then erase them for analysis. Interestingly, the group of girls, Renge, Ayame, Sanzaka, Erika, Hinageshi, Yuri, and Nerine, help blend into society until they are tasked to erase the humans. Also, Renge discovering who she is despite not having her memories was interesting, and she also has a little sister.

That said, while the Yuri pairings didn’t disappoint, as the Lily in the title suggests, they are only covered in one episode, but at least it’s there. The animation is good, but I think some will have mixed feelings because of the character’s personalities. I eventually got used to it when they received more development. Overall, it’s a decent slice of life with cooking, some suspense and fighting those giant monsters.
