A police officer is on the run after he was implicated in the death of a detainee.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says it is on the lookout for Constable Prince Ndavambi, who is wanted for the ‘unfortunate death’ of Blessed Believe Juruvenge.
In clarifying its record, the ZRP said, “For the record, the late Blessed Believe Juruvenge’s relatives and neighbours came to Police General Headquarters and met the ZRP Command on the day their relative was reported to have passed on.
“The Police command quickly directed that a murder docket be opened and the suspect Constable Prince Ndavambi be arrested.”
Cops say Juruvenge’s relatives are fully aware of the position.
Ndavambi then bolted.
“Sadly, Constable Ndavambi disappeared as his arrest was imminent,” the ZRP has added. “He is currently on the run. Efforts to arrest him are underway for the law to take its course without fear or favour. The Commissioner-General of Police, Stephen Mutamba has made it clear that the law is the law and that no one will sweep this disturbing case under the carpet.”
The Police also say two autopsies have been conducted by pathologists Dr Jabangwe and Dr Gullen. The family has been advised that they can engage an independent pathologist.
Constable Ndavambi is suspected of having assaulted Juruvenge at a Ruwa police station while extorting a USD 100 bribe for his release.
