SDF thanks NCW for timely action on online abuse complaint
GANGTOK,: The SDF party has extended its sincere gratitude to the National Commission for Women (NCW) for their prompt response and follow-up on the serious matter of cyberbullying, rape threats, and harassment directed at the party’s woman spokesperson and another lady in Sikkim.
In a press statement on Thursday, SDF senior vice president Dr Neeru Sewa shared that the party has received formal communication from the NCW regarding the case. She informed that the commission has written to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Gangtok on November 14 requesting an action-taken report on the matter.
The letter states that “action taken in the matter may be communicated to the Commission within 30 days from the date of receipt”. It further notes that “in the event of inaction or non-submission of the requested action-taken report within the stipulated period…the Commission shall proceed to take such action as it deems proper.”
“The SDF party appreciates the commission’s timely intervention in this serious matter. We trust that the concerned State authorities in the interest of justice will treat this case with the urgency it deserves and ensure that all legal processes are carried out swiftly and transparently Cyberbullying and threats of rape, particularly against women, cannot be tolerated in any democratic society, and it is essential that strong action be taken to deter such violent behaviour in the future,” said the SDF senior vice president.
“The SDF party remains committed to protecting democratic rights and advocating for the safety, dignity, and justice of all women in Sikkim. We look forward to a thorough investigation and a prompt resolution in accordance with the law,” added Dr Sewa.
