Now that Ichigo’s proverbial cat is out of the bag, you’d think we’d enjoy some smooth sailing for at least a little bit, but no. The shorter seasons mean less time for such frivolity. Instead, we’re immediately thrust into Aoyama not wanting Ichigo to be a Mew Mew anymore because his nightmares of her crying are paralyzing him with fear that something bad will happen to her.
Meanwhile, we also don’t get much time with Quiche as he recovers from his wounds from the previous episode. He’s shown in the start of the episode in some recovery chamber, and he’s back to normal after that.
The aliens are cooking up their final plan, and obviously that means we’re building up to the two remaining big reveals of Tokyo Mew Mew – one of which being that Aoyama is the Blue Knight.
After cornering Zakuro, Pudding, Lettuce, Akasaka, and Shirogane at Cafe Mew Mew with an army of Chimera Anima created and controlled by Tart, Quiche kidnaps Ichigo right in front of Aoyama. Ichigo doesn’t transform at any point during because I dunno. Quiche binds her hands later and makes one last desperate plea for her heart, which she vehemently rejects. Quiche then strangles her, and Aoyama, glowing blue, shows up to take down Quiche and save Ichigo. In the process, he transforms, without a transformation sequence, so I guess he doesn’t get one in this series, into the Blue Knight.
I never quite understood why he suddenly is aware he’s the Blue Knight in any version, but whatever.
I was kinda excited about the prospect of Ichigo and Aoyama fighting together, but after she transforms and expresses that she wants to fight with him, he still refuses and says he’ll protect her. Granted, she still had to go off and help the other Mews, but still.
Mint is out the picture due to Pie’s part in this plan. Mint’s brother, Seiji, has launched…quite possibly one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen. After the fiasco with his ocean pollution cleaner machine, he and their family’s company have launched a machine that cleans the air.
It’s pretty much two little blimps with an air filter on it.
Not gonna lie. I laughed quite a bit at this.
Maybe I’m just an ignoramus, but this thing looks really dumb. I was on board with the ocean pollution cleaner machine, but this is just silly. This thing can’t be effective enough to be worth the power and money that goes into its creation, can it?
Anyway, Seiji is back to treating Mint like a little kid, so he bars her from leaving the house after the machine gets hijacked by Pie and the aliens create some sort of…..well, there’s no other term that fits it better – thunderdome. It’s literally a dome of dark clouds filled with lightning that doesn’t allow anything in or out and covers all of Tokyo.
They spend most of the episode trapped in this thing……I mean, can’t we just get….
…..out of the Thunderdome?
Ya know, can’t we just get outside the boundaries of this Thunderdome?
Like, if I was in this scenario, I would, ideally, like to just get beyond….
….the area in which this dome of thunder is located.
But I digress.
The point is, after losing to the Blue Knight once more, Quiche, Tart, and Pie all kneel before the Blue Knight, proclaiming that he’s the one they’ve been waiting for all this time, much to Aoyama’s confusion and shock.
This episode was pretty good. I thought the Aoyama/Blue Knight reveal was pretty well done. I hope the other reveal is done just as well if not better. I don’t quite get why Mint needs to be MIA, but hopefully that means she’ll get some triumphant moment in the next episode when she returns.
