One Piece Episode 1168: “Ancient History – The Harley Passed Down by Elbaph”

Loki wakes up and questions Shamrock about his connection to Shanks since they look identical. Gunko says he doesn’t have to answer, but Loki insists. Pirates and World Nobles are opposites, so someone like Shamrock sharing a face with a legendary pirate like Shanks doesn’t make sense.

Shamrock reveals Shanks is his younger twin brother. He says Shanks once returned to Mary Geoise but chose to live in what he calls the “filthy” lower world. Loki responds that both brothers have earned his anger. Once he’s free, he’ll make Shamrock pay for attacking him while defenseless and for harming his animal friends.

Shamrocks three headed sword

Unbothered, Shamrock draws his sword, which transforms into the three-headed dog Cerberus. Gunko creates a bird, and the two leave while Shamrock orders Cerberus to attack. He tells Loki that if he survives, he’ll be waiting. A shaken Loki admits even he might not survive and angrily curses the World Nobles. In the air, Shamrock suggests using the children as leverage against the Giants and tells Gunko to call another knight.

At Aurust Castle, Luffy hears about the attack but refuses to believe it was Shanks. Despite the resemblance, he insists it had to be a lookalike, pointing out Shanks has visited Elbaph many times. Nami notes how defensive he is, but Luffy says that’s natural. The guards suggest the attacker could be Shanks’ brother. Luffy admits he’s never heard Shanks mention family, assuming the Roger Pirates were his only family, aside from Buggy. Meanwhile, a mysterious figure approaches the castle.

The Owl Library

At Treasure Tree Adam, Franky learns that all of the branches come from the same tree, meaning it isn’t as rare as he originally thought. Ripley is surprised to hear how valuable the wood is outside of Elbaph, and Saul refuses to let Franky take any pieces. This makes Franky realize that the tree’s value comes from people taking it without being noticed.

Franky then spots a mural on the tree, but Ripley dismisses it as drawings made by children long ago, even though it is treated as a historical relic. She believes it may have been drawn during the Void Century, which Franky decides to tell Robin about later. The mural itself is unusual, as there are not many giants shown, and the different races are depicted working together. Because of this, Ripley thinks it is just a child’s dream.

The stories of Nika

At the Owl Library, Saul shows Robin the Harley and explains that Elbaph’s myths and legends all come from interpretations of the text. This is why people believe the Sun God has different personalities. Robin asks to read it and Saul agrees, explaining that it is divided into three chapters. The third chapter describes the current world and what may happen in the future. Saul also reveals that stories of Nika exist across the world, and the one thing they all share is that he appears laughing to a specific rhythm, which Saul begins to imitate.

  • In the first chapter, called the “First World,” it explains that there was once fire within the earth. Humanity gave in to greed and reached for the forbidden sun. The enslaved prayed, and in response the sun god appeared. This caused the earth god to rage, and it unleashed a serpent of hellfire that covered the world in death and darkness. From that point on, the two would never meet.
  • In the second chapter, the “Second World,” it says that within the void there was breath. The forest god brought demons under control while the sun spread war across the world. Those of the half-moon dreamed, and those of the full moon dreamed as well. Eventually, man killed the sun and took its place as god, which led the sea god to rise in anger. Because of this, they would never meet.
  • In the third chapter, the “Third World,” it describes a time where chaos gave way to emptiness. The remaining few remember the promised day and hear the voice of the half-moon. The sun god laughs and dances as it leads the world toward its end. In the end, the sun returns and brings a new morning. This time, they will finally meet.
