I would absolutely love to be in the kitchen at Raglan Road.
If you’ve never been, Ragland Road is a massive Irish Pub-style concept in the heart of Disney Springs. It’s been there since the area was Pleasure Island, in the same spot where the Pleasure Island Jazz Company used to be.
That was a great spot, having seen Pretty Boy Freud there many moons ago, spending more time than I care to mention at Mannequins just across the pathway.
Raglan Road continues that space’s tradition of live entertainment with some killer food and more than enough massive crowds to justify a very long and storied existence.
Of course, being an Irish pub, we have to talk about beer and it was my full expectation to take advantage of this opportunity to see exactly how good their Guinness was going to taste. What I did not anticipate was having exclusive local beers to choose from, enough to get a full flight.
They even have an exclusive local flight available. We’re going to go through each of these step-by-step, but I will start with the entry from Swamp Head in Gainesville, Likely Light Lager (American Lager, 4.5% ABV).
This is how I expect Raglan Road bartenders to steer your average macro drinking tourist that wants something different, but doesn’t actually want something different. It is as perfect an American adjunct light lager is going to be when it’s made by somebody who makes very good beers for a living.
Completely see through, with a light straw color, this beer gives very light and pale ale-style aromas of floral hops and pale, lightly sweet two row malt.
The flavor is very snappy and clean. There’s a little bit of malt sweetness, a little bit more floral hop bitterness, and that’s it. There are no adjuncts, there is no excessive happiness, there are no citrus or roasted flavors here. This is as simple and clean a beer as you’re going to be able to find.
This is also the place where I would start this particular flight, as it’s just going to get darker and more robust from here on out. But it’s a likely candidate for a simple beer drinker to go for, and definitely a welcome, if not unexpected, entry to the tap list at Raglan Road.
