Have you ever wondered what is the “secret” to holiness? Or what could I do or teach my kids that would lead them closer to Jesus Christ?
I’ve had the privilege of researching the lives of many saints over the past 10 years and there is one thing which seems to link them all together.
Time and time again this one thing keeps popping up in their lives that drives them to lead a holy and heroic life.
You want to know what it is?
A deep and personal devotion to the Blessed Mother.
Whenever a saint is in trouble, or trying to discern God’s will for their life, they turn to the Virgin Mary for help.
As a small sampling, here are some of the Marian devotions found in the lives of the saints we feature in our comic books:
1. St. Thérèse of Lisieux – During an intense illness, she turned to Our Lady and she “smiled” at her, curing her.
2. St. Faustina – Not only did St. Faustina have a vision of Jesus, but also the Virgin Mary.
3. Father Patrick Peyton – He was deeply devoted to the Rosary, and was even miraculously cured of tuberculosis when he turned to her in prayer.
4. Father Nelson Baker – He was particularly drawn to Our Lady of Victory and whenever he needed a “victory,” he turned to her.
5. Father Aloysius Schwartz – For Father Al, he always turned to Our Lady of the Poor and she never let him down when he needed to provide for the children under his care.
This is also one of the reasons why we have decided to include the Virgin Mary in our Medal Knight superhero series. Our main character “Max,” is inspired by St. Maximilan Kolbe and highlights how the Virgin Mary can help us live a heroic life.
And we even created an entire series based on Messages from Our Lady, showing Mary’s miraculous intercession throughout history.
As. St. Maximilan Kolbe once said, “Never be afraid of loving Mary too much. You can never love her more than Jesus did.”
The closer you and your children (and grandchildren) draw close to Mary, the closer you draw to Christ.
The key is to develop a true, personal devotion, seeing her as your spiritual Mother.
Its precisely what Jesus wanted for us, “Then he said to the disciple, ‘Behold, your mother.’ And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.” (John 19:27)
She will look after you and your children….we just have to let her do her work.
