Xanthus
Xanthus is a juvenile, green sea turtle who was accidentally caught by a fisherman in Cedar Key on May 30th. Xanthus had no injuries from the incidental capture and is in good body condition. They have moderate sized fibropapilloma tumors present on their front flippers. Xanthus’ initial treatment plan consists of fluid therapy.

Xanthus’ first swim test showed no abnormal swimming behaviors. We will continue to increase their swim time over the next few days.

Xanthus is able to be in deep water all day and overnight. They are starting to show interest in food.

All marine turtle footage taken in Florida was obtained with the approval of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) under conditions not harmful to marine turtles. Footage was acquired while conducting authorized conservation activities pursuant to FWC MTP-25/26-172.
