JIM YOUNG: Spirit of the ride shines bright

Riders faced unseasonably cold weather, a rarity for Florida at this time of year. With morning temperatures dipping far below average, each mile became a meaningful test of endurance. Despite the chill, spirits were high as everyone took to the road with one goal: to make this leg of the trip one to remember.

Along the way, the day’s challenges became opportunities for camaraderie and teamwork. Sweep riders stepped up to fix flats and coordinate sag vans where needed, ensuring no one was left behind. A gravel detour added an unexpected twist, turning part of the ride into a true test of resilience and grit. Yet, through it all, the group pushed forward together, conquering 84 heroic miles. Whether riding or supporting from the vans, every participant played a vital role in the day’s success.

By the time we all arrived at Redlands Community Church in Homestead, the warmth of community filled the room. Riders shared stories of the road, celebrated their accomplishments, and found comfort in a hot meal and good company. Today wasn’t just about the miles—it was about the resilience, spirit, and heart that make this ride so special. If this leg of the journey is any indication, there’s no challenge too great for this incredible group.
