Not long after posting about Diageo’s new bottled cocktails, the company has added yet another cocktail to the mix: the Astral Margarita.
Margaritas aren’t all that complex, and I typically have all the ingredients on hand at any given time. That said… I’m lazy. I don’t want to wash the citrus juicer and cocktail shaker every time I desire the delightful taste of Mexico in my mouth. That’s where premade cocktails really shine.
The one thing I always look for when taking the lazy way out is whether it’s actually a cocktail or just a malt beverage faking the funk. The Astral Margarity is made of real tequila with lime juice and triple sec. That’s a win in my book.
The Astral Margarita tastes just like you’d expect… so if you’re looking for tasting notes, please refer to your memory. They’re in there; I promise. It also has a Double Gold medal from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Sadly, that doesn’t mean it’s twice as good as a normal gold, but it does mean every judge gave it a gold medal. There’s something to be said for consistency.
You can obviously gussy this drink up with a rimmed glass and fresh citrus, but to me, that defeats the purpose. Just dump it in a glass with ice and drink it. Or do as I did and hit it with the salt shaker.
The Astral Margarita is 20% ABV and is available in 350ml and 750ml bottles at $14 and $26 respectively.
