Echigo Hazy IPA to Enrich Your Heart : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste
Though this is supposed to be a hazy IPA, Echigo Hazy IPA to Enrich Your Heart didn’t really pour out as hazy as I had expected. However, that could be because I’ve been spoilt by some better hazy IPAs in Japan. The body was slightly opaque, with a modicum amount of haziness, but nothing that really piqued my interest sadly. The head was small, with just a few bubbles on show before dissipating quickly away.
One thing that Echigo Beer did get right is the tropical notes to the beer. It began with some light mango and pineapple aroma, though it was softer and smoother than I would have liked. In hindsight, this is probably down to it being marketed towards people who aren’t used to the strong aromas found in imported hazy IPAs or some of the more popular versions in Japan. As the beer warmed up, light citrus notes of lemon and orange came forward, suplimenting the tropical notes that were found in the beginning. A touch of sweetness brought it all together, but it was light in aroma.
The body to Echigo Hazy IPA to Enrich Your Heart began in a pretty similar manner as to the aroma – a light tropical juice flavour of mango and pineapple was found. I didn’t notice any abrasiveness to the body, though I would have liked it to have been fuller, as Echigo Hazy IPA to Enrich Your Heart veered toward more of the drier side than I prefer. The citrus notes came through once again as the beer had warmed up, though the aftertaste was fleeting and I found myself almost forgetting the beer as soon as it had been finished.
