Yo-Ho Uchoten Aliens New World Hop : Background
Yo-Ho Uchoten Aliens New World Hop is a 6% hazy IPA from Yo-Ho Brewing Company based in Nagano, Japan. As with the Yo-Ho Uchoten Aliens, this is a canned and draught beer that is brewed in collaboration with 7/11; however, this one is a limited edition beer, and once supplies have run out, there are no plans to make it again. As the name suggests, this beer is brewed using hops from New Zealand Nelson Sauvin hops instead of the Idaho 7 found in the original beer. Besides that, the rest of the ingredients are the same.

Yo-Ho Uchoten Aliens New World Hop : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste
Yo-Ho Uchoten Aliens New World Hop poured out a hazy golden colour with a thin white head on top. The head didn’t hang around for long, quickly fading away to leave a thin ring around the edge of the glass. Compared to the original Yo-Ho Uchoten Aliens, this version looked a little duller, missing some of that vibrancy from the original canned version. Still, it had enough haze to look the part.
The aroma was a different story altogether, with the Nelson Sauvin hops bringing a distinctly white-wine character to the beer. There was a touch of citrus underneath, but the wine-like notes were firmly in the driving seat. That said, the aroma never really kicked into high gear, remaining fairly restrained throughout drinking. What did stand out was the malt sweetness, which was noticeably thicker than in the original. As the beer warmed up, a touch of creaminess also started to come through, giving it a softer, sweeter edge.
Bitterness was where things didn’t quite go as expected. Given the hazy IPA style, I was expecting a little more bite, but Yo-Ho Uchoten Aliens New World Hop kept things surprisingly tame. Compared to other hazy IPAs I’ve had recently, the bitterness was much more restrained, allowing the white-wine character and malt sweetness to take centre stage. The sweetness stuck around from the first sip to the last, while the medium body and chewy mouthfeel gave the beer a bit of weight. The flavours also lingered on the palate long after the beer was gone.
Yo-Ho Uchoten Aliens New World Hop : The Bottom Line
Yo-Ho Uchoten Aliens New World Hop takes things in a softer, sweeter direction than the original. If you’re expecting a big, bitter hop punch, you might come away wanting a little more. If you’re after something with a wine-like character and a sweeter finish, there’s plenty here to get stuck into.
