Informal Dining Furniture – My Favorite Affordable Pieces!

Hi Everyone,

Before we get into the informal dining furniture

Yes, I completely missed the Sunday post this week.

The reason is that my 31-year-old special needs son #2 decided at the 11th hour to cancel a plane trip back to the US that was booked six weeks earlier. No, they weren’t refundable tickets. That’s not in the budget. And no, I couldn’t force him to take the trip because that would definitely come back to bite me in the arse even worse.

However, I had to spend four hours on the phone or WhatsApp with two banks, and one Airline who’s hub is 5,500 miles away.

And no, I am not exaggerating about the time spent. Both banks and the airline were having technical problems. (Is Mercury in retrograde or something?) Anyway, as you might imagine, it left my tank on empty. Thus, I hit a non-yielding wall. So, I gave up on the notion of keeping to my schedule.

The rest, I’ll spare you, but just know that I have 100% support from the rest of my family, including my wasband.

Okay, now that we have that out of the way, let’s get into the post about some seriously gorgeous informal dining furniture!

It seemed like a good many of you enjoyed the furniture post from last Thursday, so I would like to keep going. I’m glad, because aside from architecture, home furnishings are my next favorite topic.

Laurel’s Rolodex

Next up in our series is the best dining room furniture. That is informal dining furniture. And in this case, I am sticking with new dining furniture 97% of the time.

While there is some crossover between formal and more casual, I decided to make this widget more to the less formal side of the spectrum.

The beautiful informal dining furniture below is an example of what I’m talking about.

The main reason I did this is that new formal dining furniture is often much more expensive than comparable vintage pieces.

I mean a LOT more expensive in many cases. Of course, for rare antiques, they pretty much trump 98% of any new furniture except for this grotesque company with prices in the exosphere.

Does anyone actually buy this stuff, Laurel?

No, of course not! They make it for comic relief. duh 😂

Back to business. This time, I’ve created one widget that has some of my favorite new dining tables and chairs.

However, I also included several case pieces. Four of the tall cabinets are antiques, but everything else is new dining furniture. I put the four antiques in more as an example of what you could do, in the way of paint, to knock back the formality of some vintage case pieces.

In addition, there are several chandeliers that would suit a more casual dining space.

Still, I also adore a more traditional, but updated, dining room.

So, I intend to create another widget with some of my favorite more formal, trad dining room furnishings. By “updated,” I mean a trad dining room that doesn’t look like it was plucked out of the American Wing at the Met in New York City. (See below)

Although this would’ve been a parlor. Yes! The living room. That’s because it was a sin to be in any way comfortable in those days. 😉

There is almost nothing better than gorgeous, beautifully proportioned dining room furniture.

Conversely, one of the worst eyesores in interior furnishings is the abundance of poorly scaled and designed dining room pieces. This post in the link below is one where I share some quintessentially horrid dining furniture.

But, there are also some exquisite, inspirational dining spaces. You can see it all in this post.

Help me please. My husband wants a matched set of dining room furniture

Some of the furniture in the widget was also in the cheap series I did this past year.

The post below is all about cheap (but doesn’t look it) dining room furniture.

Cheap Dining Room Furniture – That Looks Expensive (Parts 1 & 2)

Of course, the cheapest is FREE. So, if you’re lucky enough to inherit some beautiful vintage pieces, congratulations. Also, hearty congrats to those of you who found an entire houseful of gorgeous furniture for $50, plus the cost of a U-Haul. 😉

This widget took me many hours to put together, but it was also a lot of fun.

As always, I can’t control where the individual pieces fall in the widget, and every time you refresh the page on desktop, they’ll move around. I don’t believe the images move around on mobile because they are in a straight line.

Please enjoy the informal dining room furniture below.

Please let me know if you’d like to see the more formal dining furniture next, or move on to another space or discuss a different topic altogether.
