Two People From the Same Block Charged After a Man Was Shot in the Leg in North Lawndale


UPDATE — August 28, 2026: A second suspect has been charged in connection with the August 11, 2026, shooting. Ronald Sallie, 53, of the 1800 block of South Harding Avenue, was arrested on August 26, 2026, in the same block where the shooting occurred.

He faces three felony counts, including aggravated battery by discharge of a firearm, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, and reckless conduct causing great bodily harm. A detention hearing is scheduled for August 28, 2026, at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse.


A 35-year-old woman is facing felony charges after allegedly participating in the shooting of a man in the leg on her own block in Chicago’s North Lawndale neighborhood ten days before her arrest, according to Chicago Police.

What Happened

At approximately 1:15 p.m. on August 11, 2026, a 35-year-old man was shot in the leg in the 1800 block of South Harding Avenue in the North Lawndale neighborhood in the 10th District.

He was taken to a local hospital in good condition.

The Arrest

Chicago Police arrested Emanda Mata, 35, on August 21, 2026, in the 1800 block of South Harding Avenue, the same block where the shooting occurred ten days earlier.

She was identified as an offender who participated in the shooting and was placed into custody without incident.

The Charges

Mata faces three felony counts in connection with the shooting.

One felony count of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm.

One felony count of reckless conduct causing great bodily harm.

One felony count of aggravated battery by discharge of a firearm.

A detention hearing is scheduled for August 23, 2026, at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse at 2600 South California Avenue.

Prior Arrest

CPD public arrest records reviewed by Chicago Crime Chaser show Mata was previously arrested on July 10, 2024, near 3939 West Ogden Avenue in the 10th District on a charge of criminal trespass to a vehicle.

She was released the same day with no bond required.

Chicago Crime Chaser has not been able to independently verify the outcome of that prior case.

A Second Arrest

Chicago Police arrested Ronald Sallie, 53, of the 1800 block of South Harding Avenue, on August 26, 2026, in the same block where the August 11 shooting occurred.

He was identified as the offender who shot and injured the 35-year-old male victim and was placed into custody without incident.

Sallie faces three felony counts in connection with the shooting.

One felony count of aggravated battery by discharge of a firearm.

One felony count of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm.

One felony count of reckless conduct causing great bodily harm.

One count of issuance of warrant.

A detention hearing is scheduled for August 28, 2026, at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse at 2600 South California Avenue.

CPD described Emanda Mata as an offender who participated in the shooting when she was charged on August 21, 2026. Sallie is now identified as the primary shooter. Both defendants will face separate proceedings.
