Gary Neville makes Premier League prediction for Everton vs Man Utd
Manchester United legend Gary Neville has made his prediction for the Red Devils’ Premier League clash against Everton on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils had a disappointing start to the season, losing 2-0 to newly promoted Hull City. They redeemed themselves by beating Ipswich Town convincingly at Old Trafford (5-2).
They now face the Toffees at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday. Speaking on The Overlap, Neville has now made his prediction and believes United will come on top with a 2-1 victory.
The 51-year-old said that the Red Devils have a good away record at Everton and backed them to secure their first win on the road this season.
He said: “2-1 United. Sorry Everton fans. We do have a good record there. I think we do well there.”
United have traditionally had a good head-to-head record against Everton in the Premier League era, but the recent results against the Toffees have been a mixed bag. They have picked up just one win in the last three meetings (one draw and one loss).
Last season, United suffered a 1-0 defeat to the Toffees at Old Trafford despite the visitors being a man down after just 13 minutes. They avenged the loss on Merseyside. Benjamin Sesko came off the bench to score a fine winner on the counter-attack.
United should be fancied to secure another victory this time around, considering the Toffees are short of quality upfront. They re-signed Jack Grealish on deadline day on loan, but the departure of Iliman Ndiaye to Manchester City is undoubtedly a blow.
The club sought to land Monaco striker Folarin Balogun as a replacement for Beto, who moved to Fiorentina, but were unable to do so. United likewise blocked the Toffees’ proposal to land Joshua Zirkzee on loan before the 11pm deadline on Tuesday.
United were below par in the opening half against Ipswich last weekend, but were a completely different attacking outfit after the interval, scoring four goals. If they turn up in the same vein of form, Everton could endure a tough afternoon in front of their fans.
