Hasbro Entertainment and Fathom Entertainment are bringing The Transformers: The Movie animated film back to Canadian cinemas this month. The new 4K screenings celebrate the film’s 40th anniversary and cap what is being marketed as an “Apology Tour.” Since its original release in 1986, the movie has seen various theatrical engagements – most recently in 2018. A new 12-minute CG-animated short film, titled Optimus Prime: Awakening, will screen after the movie teasing the future for the franchise.
The Transformers: The Movie was directed by Nelson Shin at Toei Animation from a script by Ron Friedman for Sunbow Entertainment and Marvel Productions. Vince DiCola composed the film’s score.
Josh Wassung directed Optimus Prime: Awakening at The Third Floor from a script by Ryan Parrott. Bobby Krlic composed the score. The short stars Peter Cullen in his final original performance as Optimus Prime. He is joined again by Frank Welker as Megatron and Soundwave.
In 1986, THE TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE rolled into theaters and changed the franchise forever. Unicron arrives as a planet-sized threat to the universe, heroes rise, legends are forged and an entire generation of kids were changed forever by THAT moment, which still hits like a truck.
