Last night, I had the chance to spend some time with United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain, who was in Northwest Indiana helping raise money for PDA leader and UAW activist Scott Houldieson.
Scott is running for State Senate to defeat a MAGA Republican and bring a strong working-class voice to the Indiana Statehouse.

But Labor Day 2026 finds us at a crossroads.
The Trump administration has launched a sweeping attack on the federal workforce and the public servants Americans depend on every day. Over 270,000 workers have been affected. Federal workers help keep our weather forecasting systems running, protect the safety of our food, advance lifesaving medical research, and carry out countless other essential services.
And the consequences can reach places we might never expect. This summer, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers halted work on the Brandon Road project, a critical effort designed to keep invasive carp from reaching the Great Lakes. After mounting concern from Great Lakes leaders, the administration allowed the project to resume. RSVP here.
This Sunday, join us for a special Labor Day weekend Progressive Town Hall about the labor movement, the federal workforce, and what comes next.
We’ll also hear from Carleigh Beriont, a former union organizer and Democratic candidate for Congress in New Hampshire’s 1st District. Carleigh chairs the Hampton Select Board, teaches at the Harvard Kennedy School, and previously organized with UAW Local 5118. Her campaign is focused on issues including Medicare for All, higher wages, public education, and affordability.
