I can finally read True Philippine Ghost Stories – Book Geek Musings
Last year, I was suddenly hit by nostalgia. Reading True Philippine Ghost Stories by PSICOM was part of my grade school years so I tried to search online where I can buy second-hand copies of the books (to no avail) and even contacted PSICOM if they have a repository of the e-books where I can buy. There are ebooks in Google Books sold for PhP 100.00 each but I eventually forgot about it.
I saw a post this afternoon in Spot Ph that True Philippine Ghost Stories ebooks are free in PSICOM App. And this article was published in October 22, 2020. Last year, I was trying to find them and lo, they are already accessible for free.
For those not familiar, True Philippine Ghost Stories is a compilation of ghost stories from all over the Philippines. It was first published in 2002 and contains horror stories from your typical white lady stories to scary paranormal activities. Some stories have an illustration or two. I remember that when a well-off classmate bought a new copy (it costs PhP 100.00 back then. Nobody had that kind of money in a public school unless you are burgis. Imagine that?!?), it got passed around. It was like Magandang Gabi Bayan Halloween Special on a normal day.
The app is accessible in IOS and Android.
To access the TPGS, you need to create an account. For faster log ins, I used my Apple ID for sign up. Issues of TPGS are found under “PSICOM FREE eBOOKS I”. TPGS is not the only free ebook there. Haunted Philippines and stories of other haunted places found under HORROR are also free. If horror is not your cup of tea, there are other free materials there such as books by Ramon Bautista, the late Lloyd Cadena, submitted stories and other popular published PSICOM books.
Since the app is free, expect ads. One thing I noticed is that the response is slow (and I am already using IPAD Pro). I have not downloaded it on my Android phone since I am not using it for reading.
If you are like me, caught in nostalgia of True Philippine Ghost Stories, downloading PSICOM app is a good way to reread the series.
