Legal IT Insider and Trellis hosted a live webinar on 4th February at 12pm ET/5pm GMT to discuss AI best practices in the wider litigation space. The webinar, which attracted a global audience of senior litigation leaders, offered valuable insights into Trellis’s own technology and some of the challenges and opportunities around leveraging generative AI to improve legal research, analysis, and drafting.
Trellis co-founder and CEO Nicole Clark talked about the genesis of Trellis, which came about when Clarke began using data in her own practice as a litigator, and began winning more cases.
Clarke conducted a demo of Trellis AI, showcasing features including:
- Draft Arguments: Using similar, successful motions to generate arguments and citations for motions such as dismissals and summary judgments.
- Case Assessment: Predicting likely case outcomes at any stage to guide acceptance, motion practice, settlement offers, and trial preparation.
- Defenses: Analyzing complaints to obtain recommended defenses based on allegations and causes of action.
- Analyze Argument: Identifying key arguments and evidence in opposing counsel’s briefs to draft replies and prepare for hearings.
- Key Witnesses: Recognizing people involved in the case and their roles to guide document requests, interrogatories, and depositions.
- Timeline: Automating chronology creation to list key dates, events, and relationships, providing an accurate case snapshot.
We discussed adoption and customer use cases; accuracy and security, including how users can be assured that their data is secure; and how users can ensure they are using AI tools responsibly.
