Moodship returns to Cape Town for one night only – Texx and the City

South African musician Moodship, aka Gary Thomas, will return to the country for his first local performance in two years, playing a one-night-only show at Cape Town’s Slave Church Museum on 7 November. Now based in Spain, where he relocated in December 2024, Thomas has spent the past two years writing new material and recording a forthcoming album. The concert will also feature guest appearances from Andre Geldenhuys, Daniel Zacharias Franks, Lu’hra, Nina Kay and Miles Sievwright, each performing one song alongside Moodship.

Known for his experimental approach to indie folk, Moodship combines intricate songwriting with unconventional guitar techniques, creating performances that move between cinematic soundscapes and virtuosic bursts of energy.

The award-winning musician has received two Standard Bank Ovation Awards at the National Arts Festival and toured extensively across South Africa, Europe and Kenya. His most recent EP, What I Couldn’t Carry, was released in May 2025, while his upcoming album is part of a wider return to European touring planned for 2027.

The 7 November performance will be Moodship’s only South African concert in 2026, offering audiences a chance to catch the musician’s evolving live show alongside a lineup of local collaborators. Tickets are available through Quicket.
