I have seen notices at some hotels in Asia, Japan in fact, that require lounge-eligible guests to reserve their spot, usually during the evening happy hour, and that they can only stay for a set time, but at least, in my case, this has not been enforced.

However, I have never encountered a hotel that would have required you to use OpenTable or any other online platform to reserve a spot for breakfast or evening happy hour in their club lounge.

It is clear that the reason behind this is overcrowding, which is partially likely due to these transferrable Club Access and Guest of Honor certificates, which you can buy off eBay or many other platforms for pennies on the dollar.

However, the hotel could offer alternative happy hours at a bar, and guests could obviously be provided breakfast at the main restaurant if the club lounge becomes too busy in the morning.

Conclusion

This hotel used to close its club lounge for the weekends, when it was an ideal place to stay for the closed club lounge bonus (the bonus went away years ago).

It is clear that the hotel here tries to control the crowding, but does the OpenTable interface only offer times that are still available, or are guests only indicating their preferred dining time?

What is your opinion about this? Would you like to make a Club Lounge access reservation using OpenTable rather than visiting it when you prefer? Please comment below.
