Alabama football at Georgia to be played at night, as expected

Happy Thursday, everyone. We got some schedule news yesterday, starting with the announcement of a 6:30pm kickoff time for the September 27 game in Athens.

The Bulldogs have not lost a night game in Sanford Stadium since the 2009 season. Since then, the Dawgs been undefeated under the lights and have earned some massive victories such as their 2019 defeat of Notre Dame, a trouncing of top 25 ranked Mississippi State in 2017, a historic eight-overtime victory over Georgia Tech last year, and numerous others.

Georgia will look to add a win over the Alabama Crimson Tide to its massive night game streak this season as the two teams face off on September 27th. Kickoff for this game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and will be aired on ABC/ESPN+.

I remember one y’all lost in 2008, but understand if your memory has blacked out on that one.

Hunter Bradley of WVUA says the game at Mizzou could be a trap on October 11.

The majority of the rest of the Crimson Tide’s schedule has a flex designation, meaning the game will start at any time between 2:30 and 7pm. There is one anomaly regarding this designation and that is the game against LSU on November 8th. That contest is given a night time slot which means the game will kick off in the time frame of 5-7pm.

If you’re looking for a trap game on the schedule go ahead and put the trip to Missouri in that category. The Tide and Tigers are slated to begin at 11am on either ESPN or ABC and with the way the Crimson Tide struggled against inferior competition last season you can see why the term trap game could apply in this instance.

ESPN ranked the top plays of the past 25 years. We won’t talk about the one that ranks first, but Alabama is on there multiple times.

The national title game at the end of the 2017 season came at you in waves. Georgia dominated and led 13-0 at halftime. Alabama subbed in freshman Tua Tagovailoa and charged back to tie the score, but the Tide missed an easy field goal attempt at the buzzer. Georgia moved backward in OT but nailed a 51-yard field goal. Tagovailoa took an atrocious sack and lost 16 yards. Bama had control but lost it, and now Georgia was about to finally topple the Tide.

And then, without a timeout and with the building still buzzing, Tagovailoa calmly looked off the safeties, then fired back to a fellow freshman for the most thrilling, breathless ending to a national title game in the College Football Playoff era. — Bill Connelly

The fact that they have it ranked 4th is patently absurd, but we will never pass up the opportunity to watch it again.

Gravedigger made the cut at 20th, and several Alabama losses are mixed in per usual.

Alabama is decidedly average in the SEC where ticket revenues are concerned.

Across all sports, Alabama sat eighth among the SEC public schools in ticket revenue. UA brought in nearly $43 million during FY 2024, with $3.3 million coming from men’s basketball.

One of the schools ahead of Alabama was Kentucky, which was 12th among the 15 counted in the football rankings. The Wildcats were sixth in overall ticket revenue, helped by their $23.5 million in men’s basketball revenue.

Texas was once again No. 1 in ticket sales, bringing in $60.9 million including all sports. Texas A&M was second, at $56.1 million.

Arkansas landed third, with $53.5 million in ticket sales revenue for all sports, with LSU, at $51.9 million, fourth. Tennessee, which was one spot ahead of Kentucky, was the only other school to outearn the Crimson Tide, with $46.4 million.

Last, AJ McCarron has a funny story about how Coach Yeah put weight on his skin and bones.

“Cochran started a skinny camp,” McCarron said. “We had to go in and every morning, me and Kenny Bell, we had to eat a jar of peanut butter. Every morning. We had to finish it. There wasn’t no days off. A jar of peanut butter. You could put it in a protein shake. You could put it on PB&Js. You could just grab a spoon and just eat it. But you had to finish a jar of peanut butter every morning. I did this. I ended up getting to about 200 pounds at the end of that season. It ruined me from peanut butter. I couldn’t eat peanut butter. It scarred me.”

Don’t know if I could ever completely swear off peanut butter. Reese’s pieces are essential to living.

That’s about it for now. Have a great day.

Roll Tide.
