According to monthly campaign finance reports filed Tuesday, Doug Jones’ gubernatorial campaign received more than twice as much in donations in July as Tommy Tuberville’s campaign.
Tuberville’s campaign raised nearly $300,000 in cash contributions during July, including a $50,000 contribution from Clinical Solutions LLC. The campaign also reported $16,341.31 in in-kind contributions.
By comparison, Jones’ campaign received more than $620,000 in cash contributions last month, according to its monthly campaign finance report.
“Coach has raised $13.7 million,” Tuberville campaign Chairman Jordan Doufexis said in a statement to APR. “Unlike Doug Jones, Coach has also accepted ZERO PAC money.”
“Coach has been busy representing Alabama in the United States Senate,” Doufexis continued. “We’ll begin our general election fundraising push during this August recess.”
Jones’ campaign reported several July contributions from organizations classified as political action committees: the IBEW PAC, the Marengo County Democratic Executive Committee and Democratic Majority Action.
However, the campaign received a total of only $9,000 from the three groups. Those PAC contributions accounted for less than 2 percent of the campaign’s total receipts for the month.
The vast majority of the nearly $500,000 in itemized cash contributions received by Jones’ campaign came from individuals. The most common itemized contribution was $100, and the average itemized contribution was $158.
However, campaigns are required to itemize contributions only when a donor gives a total of $100 or more, meaning the true average contribution was likely significantly lower than $158.
Jones’ campaign received $126,099.89 in nonitemized contributions in July. Depending on the number of donations represented by that amount, including them in the calculation could significantly reduce the average contribution for the month.
Although Tuberville’s gubernatorial campaign does not appear to have accepted PAC contributions in July, Federal Election Commission filings show that his Senate campaign has accepted contributions from numerous PACs.
PACs that contributed to Tuberville for Senate included the Lockheed Martin Corporation Employees’ Political Action Committee, the Mortgage Bankers Association Political Action Committee and the Exxon Mobil Corporation Political Action Committee.
The Tuberville for Senate committee reported receiving a total of $127,500 from PACs in 2025.
The now-terminated Tuberville Victory Fund committee also accepted PAC contributions, including donations from the Seasonal Employer PAC and the Vulcan Materials Company Political Action Committee.
Both campaigns spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in July, according to their respective monthly reports. Jones’ campaign reported spending about $400,000, while Tuberville’s campaign reported spending slightly more than $310,000.
Despite raising less money in July, Tuberville’s campaign still had significantly more cash on hand heading into the final months before the November general election.
Tuberville’s campaign ended July with a balance of more than $9 million, compared with less than $2 million for Jones’ campaign.
Jones’ campaign did not respond to APR’s requests for comment. This article will be updated if the campaign responds.
