Northern Alabama Counties Cleared from Watch


The National Weather Service has canceled Severe Thunderstorm Watch 239 for several counties in north Alabama and southern Tennessee, including Cullman, Limestone, Madison, Morgan, Franklin AL, and Lawrence counties in Alabama, and Lincoln and Moore counties in Tennessee.

The watch remains in effect until 10:00 PM CDT for a portion of northeast and central Alabama, including Dekalb, Jackson, Marshall, Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Blount, Cherokee, Etowah, Fayette, Jefferson, Lamar, Marion, St. Clair, Walker, and Winston counties, as well as Franklin County in Tennessee.

Cities still under the watch include Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Gadsden, Fort Payne, Scottsboro, Guntersville, Jasper, and Carrollton. Large hail and damaging winds remain possible with any storm that develops or moves through these areas. The severe threat is expected to gradually diminish later this evening.
