Let’s Give A Bronx Cheer To The Duck Fart Cocktail
Drinking a Duck Fart cocktail made with three equal parts coffee liqueur, Irish cream and a blended Canadian whisky layered on top of each other doesn’t usually cause you to want to blow a raspberry, make a Bronx cheer or let out a fart noise. Butt [sic] apparently the first person ever served one feigned flatulence and its been repeated, repeatedly, ever since.
History Of The Duck Fart Cocktail
A 70 year old woman, name unknown, walks into a bar* in Anchorage, Alaska in December, 1987 and asks bartender Dave Schmidt for a shot of tequila, followed by a B-52 and then a Grasshopper.* It was a snowy weekday night and the place was deserted, recalls Schmidt, so the two decided to test try some trial tiered tipples.†
In one experiment, he had just layered Bailey’s over Kahlua in the bottom of a shot glass when she tells him to top it off with a little Crown Royal. After slamming the sample sip she simulated a sphincter siren that apparently sounded like she stepped on a duck and the Duck Fart cocktail was born.
That’s one explanation for how the drink was named the Duck Fart. Another has him wearing a rubber ducky style duck bill that night while tending bar. He couldn’t remember what motivated the moniker for sure.
Behind The Bar – How To Make A Duck Fart Drink At Home
Duck Fart Cocktail Shot Recipe:
- ¾ oz coffee liqueur
- ¾ oz Irish cream liqueur
- ¾ oz Canadian whisky
The Duck Fart cocktail is a pousse-cafe style layered drink with each of the three ingredients above forming its own layer (listed from bottom to top in the order you pour). Start by adding the coffee liqueur to the bottom of an oversized or double shot glass. Then, very slowly pour in the Irish cream over a bar spoon to help prevent the layers from mixing together. Repeat the process with the Canadian whiskey which forms the final of three layers to finish the drink. Quaff, then quack.

University Of Oregon And Anaheim Ducks Themed Drink
It may have originated north in Alaska, but the Duck Fart cocktail makes a great University of Oregon themed drink if you’re not offended by the under thunder in your sports teams duck call. There’s another connection conjecture to the college besides the word play association in the name as well. The drink’s co-creator was from The Beaver State, who later moved back there from Alaska, and may have been a University of Oregon Ducks fan.
The air hockey humor of the mighty Duck Fart cocktail would be a barn burner of a beverage to sport for the Anaheim Ducks of the NHL too.
