Today’s sampling comes from Moosomin, Saskatchewan – Skout Brewing’s got a brand new fresh hopped Wet Hop Pale Ale with hops harvested only minutes earlier from JGL Shepherd Farms between Fleming and Moosomin, Saskatchewan. I believe there’s only a few breweries on the planet that can say that they can have hops harvested and added to the brew within minutes – maybe Yakima Valley and New Zealand – that’s really it… but Skout still likely beats them to it!
Skout’s Field Day Wet Hop Pale Ale features: Fresh Cascade, Centennial, and Galena hops = fruit explosion. 5.0% ABV
Appearance: Cloudy with an orange-ish body, light amount of carbonation in the body, and a light sprinkling of snow white head on top.
Aroma: Stonefruit, pine, grapefruit, a hint of lemon. I had this on tap and it’s substantially more aromatic out of the can somehow.. it just came out days ago, from hops harvested only days earlier!
Taste: This tastes exactly how it smells – there’s a lot of stonefruit – I’m getting a lot of grapefruit, lemon, a hint of blackcurrent, followed by lots of pine, a hint of woodiness, lots of leafiness, and a hint of grain right from the farm.
Overall Thoughts: For the hop lovers out there – you will absolutely love this, this is overwhelming for me.. it’s bitter, it has some citrus notes, a bit of woodiness, grassiness, and graininess to it. The beer was more subdued on tap but one of a kind right from the can, but this was canned only days ago. If you happen to be in Moosomin in the next couple weeks (which is doubtful), this is a must buy.
