New split artist cassette on We Be Friends Records blurs the margins with gorgeous concordance. The first side begins with faint electronic rhythms phasing into reality. Then “Ice Cube Soup” takes hold, coloring the opening sonic stroke of the composition with drenching downbeats of guitar saturation. This captivating start is followed by sounds a little less ethereal, more cadence, heavier, “Big Boobie Number One” sinks deep into thoughts. The beauty of Two Steppes is showcased with palpable fluid diversity. The third selection “Go” summons vocals and turns the dials down on both the guitar and beats from the first two tracks. These vaporous melodies continue through the final selection on the first side of the cassette adding a little feedback for the transition to the Greyon Greene side.
“Southern Tier” steps in with elegant modulation from the first side. The ambient nebula clearing just enough to hear the deep pulse of Greyon Greene creative cadence. These are sounds for rainy nights and hazy reflectivity of artificial light. Thoughts of the day gone by and when the darkness will break for the blue hue of twilight. By the third and last selection, “Ten Years Later”, Greyon Greene recalibrates dense vibrations as introspective sonic ground clouds. A composition phasing in and out of shadowy beats drifts away leaving a fond warmth for the experience shared.
Released on We Be Friends Records in a very limited edition of fifty cassettes. Drew Gibson (Two Steppes) and Greyon Greene have been friends for many years. This composition wonderfully shows both creative differences and the gorgeous bonds of sound and energy.
