Wednesday Studio is celebrating its eleventh year with a self-described “visual love letter” to creative partnership.
The ancient philosopher Heraclitus once mused that harmony cannot exist without a bit of chaos, and vice versa. It’s hard to embrace that philosophy in an era that often feels overwhelmed by disorder, but this simple, serene short provides a welcome moment of calm.
A meditative kaleidoscope of shapes, colors, and chill, the film playfully dances through a series of contrasting image pairs (sun and moon, fish and bird), alternating between rough and gentle paint strokes in both color and black and white.
As the directors explain:
Once we established the fish and bird characters, we selected complementary imagery — water and sky, sun and moon, circles and squares. We storyboarded around the song “Lush” by Northern Telekom, letting the music guide the pacing, tone, and transitions. Every movement was crafted in response to the audio, making the connection between sound and image feel deeply intentional.
