SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Gray, Wendy, and Lucy get a briefing from Happy and Charle. They hear an explosion from the dock, where Erza battles Ued. Lage “wakes up”, hysterically laughing at the situation.  Meanwhile Erza battles Ued, but he destroys her armor. He informs her that her most powerful armor is no armor. This lets Erza know that Ued has researched her thoroughly.

A fire cat named Misfortune arrives, summoning Ued to return to Ignia’s castle. At the castle, Brian’s hat vomits out the irritated Natsu before Ignia’s throne. Ignia lets Natsu know that the TRUE Dragon King Festival is about to start. As such, Ignia offers Natsu a chance to join him for the event. Natsu responds by punching Ignia in the face.

Seeing that Natsu sided with humanity, Ignia wars they will be destroyed.

Thoughts/Review:

So, the TRUE Dragon King Festival begins with Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 161. What was the OG festival? I can’t remember. Possibly dealing with Acnologia? Can’t say I remember anything beyond the name and the association with Acnologia. So does this “true” festival mean someone like Acnologia is going to show up? Or that it is going to be some battle royal where Ignia forces the remaining live dragons to fight. Obviously, it has to be tied to whatever the labyrinth was created for.

I will give a nod to Mashima-sensei for remembering his own lore when it comes to Erza and her armor. I’m not sure why she changed out of her fire armor in the fight with Ued. Well, I do. Mashima-sensei didn’t want her to lose it, but instead lose another piece. At the same time, he wanted to have a bit of fun where we get the nod to Erza abandoning her armor in a fight to get to the next level.

As expected, Freak-a-zoid (Lage) isn’t dead. 😑

Finally, the only item of true interest to me was Lucy’s lament over not having access to Aquarius. Maybe that will come sooner rather than later to satisfy plot requirements.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

In the end, Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 161 was okay for what it was.
