I’ve been seeing the Deep Sea December prompt list from @montereybayaquarium and wanted to try sketching something…I definitely learned more than I ever knew about deep sea wildlife and was especially interested in the slender snipe eel, which I chose to paint. They feed mainly on shrimp (and though not particularly accurate I included a sushi roll just for fun 😊🍣).
Today’s prompt is gossamer, and I felt that the flowy transparent fins on these fish fit that well…I really enjoyed learning about these creatures!
We’re so touched and happy you’ve been having fun learning about the wonders of the deep sea. 🥹
As a show of thanks, how about another eelectrifying deep-sea science fact? A slender snipe eel can grow up to 5 feet long. But even at this impressive length, they only weigh a few ounces!
