For this video, we’re stopping by the Zoox booth at Reef A Palooza to check out their latest innovation, the Phantom LED light.
I was first introduced to Zoox a few years ago at Reef A Palooza Orlando, where I learned they’ve been quietly developing a wide range of products for the reef aquarium hobby. This year, the Phantom immediately caught my attention with its sleek, ultra-thin design displayed front and center, so I had to stop by and learn more.
After speaking with Michael, the owner of the Zoox, here are a few features that stood out:
- Passive cooling with no fans, making it completely silent while reducing maintenance and a point of failure.
- An incredibly thin, modern design.
- Custom designed multi-chip LEDs, each combining six colors into a single chip for seamless color blending and virtually no disco effect across the entire fixture. (and that SHIMMER)
- Multiple mounting options, including adapters that allow you to reuse existing Ecotech mounting bar.
- Reflectors surrounding each lens to help improve light distribution and coverage.
- Available with either app-based control or a manual controller, depending on your preference.
- On paper, both the PAR output and spectrum look very promising.
Take a look and let me know what you think. Is the Zoox Phantom a light you’d consider for your reef tank? I think this checks many boxes for many hobbyists.
